Does anyone GPS their favorite camping spots?

I think it would be a great idea if we could come up with a way of sharing our favorite campsites. Many of them are off road, out of the way places with no physical address. It seems that a GPS location would be a great way to share a good campsite, along with a description of the area, what you liked or disliked about it, things to do or see, etc. I know that lots of folks are using GPS for travel, geocaching, etc. I would think we could compile a fairly interesting list of places to camp.

Those of you (Moderators) more familiar with the workings of this site: Is there a way to create a "favorite campsite" heading, or attach all of these into one post(Sticky?) or ?? Maybe someone has already suggested this but I couldn't find it in a search.

Is there even any interest?

We have a Campgrounds site listed at the top of the page. I suppose that one could give the GPS coordinates in addition to or in place of more traditional information about a site. I think this would work just fine ~G

How about also displaying these sites on a map, like the members map?

I guess my thought is more toward out of the way campgrounds and boondocking. Those without an established address or not easy to find. That lake or stream that you found, fishing hole (might not want to reveal that) rock formation, waterfall that is accessable.

If you have any ideas on how this would work, best be displayed or formatted please throw your ideas into the mix.

I actually think this is a great idea. I had not seen that area of the site and just checked it out. This would let you look at sites within the area you will be travelling or looking at. If info about the C/G could be attached to the map icon and open when you click on it....seems like that would work.

Any other thoughts? Are the Moderators thinking this would be too much work and effort? Pros and Cons please.
