Actually 2500 a year are produced, and factory claims that their current backlog is 1100 units....

"Do they Still make those?"

Still not that many AS's of any vintage on the roads. In a recent trip from the Toronto area out to the Bay of Fundy and back I only saw one on the road....but a huge amount of ginormous 5th wheels. Probably something to do with a small amount of AS dealers in Canada but interesting none the less.

I love this answer! I got to remember it. Although, nobody has asked me that specific question. We have received many compliments though, people are always stopping to admire our Airstream.

Haha, but with all this new found success, aren't they running multiple shifts?

Guess mine is too long

You and I have Avions, that really confuses people when I tell them it's not an AS. Whoops I see you have an AS. What was I thinking? Jim

We've gotten a few compliments and noticed stares. We do get stares as well, we're similar ages. I've been wondering if it's just not expected for people under 30 to be cruising around glamping, let alone full timing.

I've actually had both. Guess I should take the Airstream off, since my Excella is gone

I've given plenty of tours, and had many ooh's and aaah's. Even had one nice old gent in a motorhome catty cornered from me tell me how nice it was, but the only problem with it (this was the Avion) was that the sun shining off the polished corner of the end cap blinded him. The old thing does shine up half decently, even if it's anodized...

Just never had anyone ask me if they still make them....Have a dealer about 2.5 hours from here but he's right on I-95 and you can typically see 20 brand new ones as you drive by at 80mph any day of the week...Man are they pretty! Yep, I'm hooked on Silver Trailers!

I don't understand the backlog. I think it may be smoke and mirrors- artificially affecting economics by creating false supply and demand-
In the 60's they made 110-120 trailers per week. Maybe that is due to less complicated trailers and less than 40 floor-plans.

Nope. I see only 10-12 people coming in for the nightshift.
I think they are either cleaning or staging parts for the next day's production.

Remember that Airstream only sells to dealers. Thus the backlog represents dealer orders. In January of 2014 they were pushing for 53 units per week. The factory just lacks the space to build them faster and in our experience, many errors are induced by the rush to build (like ducting crossed under the kitchen cabinet preventing air flow to the rear heater outlets - I had a photo showing that issues when the cabinet was installed as I was standing inside there at the time)

When I ordered our Classic as a model 27FB, we were assigned a build slot in January 2014. Up to about a month out, the dealer could change the contents of that slot to anything Airstream makes.

We decided to go with the model 30 Classic a few weeks after the order was entered as the up charge was just the difference in list price ($3,012 at that time) as compared to taking the depreciation hit and dealer profit to upgrade later. That was the cheapest upgrade available.

Some of the vintage trailers on the lot at Jackson Center have "Yes, we still make them" signs in the windows.
