Digital camcorders

How many Airstreamers find it worthwhile to bring along a digital camcorder on their trips and take movies?

Or are stills taken with a digital camera the best way to record memories of the trip.

I purchased a JVC 700 X digital movie camera.

Zoom up to 700 times. Mars filled the screen.

Fantastic movies as well as stills.

Depending on the quality of stills that you select, 640x480 on a 64MB card, will give you approximately 1215 shots. Wow.

Movies are in stereo. Play them back through your VCR and then TV set is amazing. On playback, you can use the remote supplied with the Camera, to start, stop, still, zoom on any object etc.

Hawaii on my tapes, never looked better.

Yeah, but I bet you had to balance quite a few wheels to pay for it!

My boss bought one recently, and the software that came with it is neet, too...you can edit scenes, insert transitions, and do all sorts of things with it very easily.

I have about 10 hours of digital tape from our vacation in Alaska three years ago. I never got around to editing them. Oh well. One of these days.

Now I also have a 4 mega pixel digital still camera and find that I tend to use that first because people mostly want to see prints or email attachments.

On New Years day I used both to simultaneously video and photograph the ALARC dive in Lake Minnetonka and put both venues into a DVD movie combining the video and stills with Ken Burns effects. Bottom line is both are valuable but I will be more selective with the video and always have the still camera ready. Next stop...London and Wales. I'm debating both or packing light with the still. I haven't decided yet.

Heading out this weekend with digital Sony movie camera in one hand and Cannon digital still camera in the other.....

Noticing the scenery in your "avatar" photo, is that an Idaho photo? We loved our trip to the area around Stanley: wish we were still at campsite #4 at Stanley Lake. Where do you recommend for Idaho camping, fishing and for great photo shoots-movie or still? Hoping to get back this summer!

The photo in my avatar has special meaning to me-- it was taken when I was 10 years old by my Grandad on my first Airstream camping trip. That trip, about 30 years ago, was the spark that ignited my passion for Airstreams. It was taken at a rest stop near Enterprise Oregon on the way to Wallowa Lake. (Northeast Oregon)

Wallowa Lake has a nice wooded state park along the shore, and is a great place to take your Airstream if you enjoy fishing, hiking or horseback riding. http://www.wallowalake.net/

There are quite a few artists living around Wallowa Lake who work with bronze. You can visit the bronze foundry there and watch them make bronze castings.

There are so many great areas in North Idaho to camp. Priest Lake, pictured here, is my favorite.
