Daylight Savings '07

Big change for 2007 with additional changes in cooming years. This will give us more road time when going on those early season camping trips. But beware, all out PC's and Laptops will be off. I would imagine our friends at Microsoft will offer some type of patch to correct the internal clocks of our PC's.

When we change our clocks
Since 1966, most of the United States has observed Daylight Saving Time from at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of April to 2:00 a.m. on the last Sunday of October. Beginning in 2007, most of the U.S. will begin Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday in March and revert to standard time on the first Sunday in November. In the U.S., each time zone switches at a different time.

You got it!
The Daylight Savings Thing is unchanged in Arizona with the exception of several Indian Reservations.

Thankfully, Winblows and Mac both have the code updated so that the transitions will be smooth.....

Windozs has just release an update for their office products. I pushed it out last night at work along with a bunch of security patches. Another good reason to skip town today and head for the 4CU Rally.

But this will play havoc with all kinds of other systems with clocks. A lot of VCR, DVD units, TV's have programming to change clocks that will malfunction. I know our voice mail system here at work will also need patches.

Oh no...sounds like Y2K all over again!

Wait - that was a dud wasn't it?

On edit - I'm not suggesting that there will be NO problems....

Most of the electronics in our house that update automatically do so through checking the time stamp on the local PBS stations, and will change when the PBS stations change. The rest of the stuff would have to be changed manually anyway.

No dud for me. As a matter of fact Y2K kept me gainfully employed and hopping for two years to rework all the company's proprietary systems and code which all were using two-digit years.

If you check out the two following links, it will provide you info on updating Windows XP and Office 2003 (Outlook) with the appropriate DST Patches. If you are using Windows Update Services this should automatically download and install on your machine:

Not being particularly early risers, we welcome the change. This will give us 4 extra weeks of daylight savings time.

I grew up with Daylight Savings time and enjoy it but I don't think we'll have extra hours for travel. Sorry, just giving you a little "poke" here. The number of hours of sunlight will be the same. Those who can set their own schedules like retirees and workers with flex time can get up when they want, eat breakfast lunch and dinner when they want, hit the road when they want and go to bed when they want. Many who travel for fun (rather than work) can set their own schedule...No? Let's just all go on GMT and set our hours by the sun! Think how much less hassle we'd have! The adjustment would be wierd for a bit but in the long run think how much easier it would be!

- Mrs. RedShed
(No insults intended. We live in Indiana where everyone tries to be up-in-arms over whether or not we should be on Daylight savings time and which time zone we should be in.)

when i picked up my flying cloud last october in prescott, arizona, i had no idea what time it was when i got into arizona. it was the day before daylight savings ended i think. i remember wondering if we were in daylight savings time now and if i was going through a time zone change too. then i thought that arizona doesn't honor daylight savings time. the few hours i was in arizona, if somebody wanted to bet me a million dollars to tell the correct time, i would of had to turn down the bet. my cell phone time was not right nor my xm satelite. it was a confusing four hours. since i drove from venice, ca to prescott, az (6 hours each way) and did it all in one day, it didn't really matter because once i was back in california, all my clocks/watch was the "right" time. i never did quite figure it out.

i'm glad for the earlier daylight savings time. more time to work on the airstream during the week.

I'm glad the start/end times are changing. I'm still working and that means that I will get home before dark for an extra 4 weeks...at least until Atlanta traffic gets worse than it already is! It also means an extra couple of trips where I can hitch up in day light after work on Friday and hit the road!

I stopped changing my watch several years ago and just stay on daylight savings time. Happily the rest of you will be catching up with me starting this year. By the way I also always stay on Central Daylight Savings Time regardless of where we are in the world.

Bring it on as it can't come soon enough! We can mess around on the road longer in March and arrive in camp later. Yippee! Spring is comin'!
