Oh ,if I won the lottery. I'd have one of the MAN trucks custom built and pull an Airstream. These are the same trucks used to run the Paris to Dakar race.

One of those rigs looks like it would be good for a modern Cape Town to Cairo passage.
I bet that they are very well sealed against dust, and water. The smaller ones look perfect for a "hunting rig".

I saw these in a thread about a year ago on the Ft. Wilderness board of www.disboards.com. We all thought they looked like garbage trucks.

Interesting and quite deceptive. I would have never imagined that decor inside a garbage truck?

I think that "garbage truck look" is an advantage. It would blend with highway truckstops or urban alleyways.

When the roof is retracted, it seems to be secure from burglars. Except by someone with specific knowledge of this rig (and how expensive it is), the general public wouldn't look twice and care about it.

It would be nice to own this rig and a parking space in a city's downtown.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the look of my Airstream. So do my relatives and friends who agreed to let me park it in their backyards thus enabling me to move from city to city.

US manufacturer in MO - Global Expedition Vehicles| 4x4 Custom-Built Expedition Vehicles. They run about $350k.

I'll stick with my overland-equipped land rover and a pop tent!

You will find a large amount of this type RV in Australia for use in the off road areas of the outback. We met up with numerous couple and singles traveling with these AND BIGGER type units . One was an all wheel drive Kenworth 10 wheeler w/ 550 hp Cat , slept 4 and could stay on the run for weeks. Carried 300 gallons fuel, 250 gal water etc. HUGE and they towed a caravan ( travel trailer to us) behind it that had at least 30" ground clearance and used the same 22" truck tires the big rig did.

Some very interesting equipment down there.
Check my web site for a few photos of our 2006 tyrip to New Zealand & OZ.
Road trains are fun to drive. I was able to hook up witth a friend and drove, about 18 miles, his tripple set.

One man's homemade gift to his disabled wife.

OSHKOSH Expedition Class AWD Motorhome

Apparently, there's quite a thriving community of extreme campers on truck chassis.

And to keep this thread "Airstream" related...

Well, at least, it seems to be utilized to its fullest and well-traveled...
