Classified Postings

Hey guys. Iv noticed something that's a little irritating to me. Id say 50% or more of the AS in the classifieds are new users. As in the VERY first post they make is in the classifieds to sell their camper. This seems like mooching to me. They make a profit off their camper without being a member of our community.

All other forums Iv been on require you to post a certain amount of post before being able to use the classifieds. Id like to see that on this site also. Whats everyone elses opinion on this?

Another alternative would be to require X months of free membership for posting to the classifieds, or instant posting for supporting members. That would get the $20 contribution from lots of people selling, though I'm sure some would decide to just stick it out with craigslist. It might also cut down on the (admittedly few) scammy ads that make it into our classifieds.

Personally, it doesn't bother me at all. I think it's a good thing to get more trailers in the classifieds for everyone. If you put membership time requirements on the adds, there would simply be fewer adds. Not good in any way, IMHO.

Who benefits from more ads?

I believe that the more classifieds that appear here on our Forums the better, and wouldn't want to discourage them.. Andy might decide to ask new members to pay as sponsoring member as way to cover costs and expense of loading a bunch of photo's (especially since new members often never bother to take down their ads..).

From my perspective, I'd rather have ads here than scattered around in hundreds of local Craigslist sites or even eBay, where the good and the scams are evenly mixed... I think we benefit more than the seller when an ad for a good unit appears here first, and am glad the classifieds are "open"...

>> If we're suggesting improvements, I wish they ALL specified year, length, price and state location in the header, as a condition of posting... I get very tired of trying to sort long from short and far from near, only after clicking on the ad and trying to find the information somewhere...

Completely understandable. A nubee buys an Airstream and finds out it's not what they wanted/expected, then decides/needs to sell. Asks around about the best place to advertize a nearly new AS. It sure as heck isn't Ebay, Craigslist or Kijiji. AF is best for this. The more traffic, even in the B/S forum, the better for all of us. JMO.

I also think it's a good thing to allow newbies to post their trailers here... the only caveat I'd like to see become mandatory is a phone number or viable e mail address to contact those that are selling. It's frustrating to be interested in someones AS and not be able to get in touch with them.

I'm very pleased that many people use the classified section. It really helped me decide on what I wanted.

Gee, you've been a member since August 2012 and want to impose new rules.

I'm just fine with big sugary drinks, plastic bags and free listings.
