Janet,

A well loved and used vehicle carries a look that a car person will recognize right away and it's one we all enjoy. I had a buddy with a 56 chev hardtop that he'd waxed so often the black undercoat was showing through a bit in a few spots. He refused to touch it up or repaint it as he said they were love marks. People at car shows agreed and many times he won the coveted People's Choice over cars with thousands of dollars worth of paint on them. They also realized that he used the car and loved it and wasn't going to take it apart to paint it.

It will be good to see yours once you get the photo thing figured out.

Barry

A whole slew of 'em !!!

Gee, i guess i had better get busy and start transposing some of my old car pix over to digital format...... a good day to do it here in Michigan today!!

I guess I have been a "gearhead" in the most honest sense of the word ever since i could sit up, and take nourishment..... And i have had quite a ride so far!!

Started out with a '67 Mustang GT Coupe for my first car...gee...rusty, and only lasted barely 2 yrs, but I had a whole whopping $210 into it...(the extra $10 was for the grief I caused the owner with the title changeover, he said..) But my peak with Mustangs was definitely one i let get away, and have regretted it ever since...I purchased my 1969 Shelby GT350 in the fall of '81 for $3800...I completely restored it mechanically in the next few yrs, and ended up tiring of it and sold it for $9000 in '88....(thinking i really made $$) Little did I know-- by '89 or '90, the Shelby market exploded, and has never come back down since.... I could retire on what that car is worth today!!

I got into early 60s Big Fords and Mercs for awhile, and in short order, and had a whole slew of em..... A couple that stand out were my Pink '63 1/2 Galaxie FastBack.... a ultra rare "R code" 427 2 x 4bbl 4 spd car that would be worth a king's ransom today!! Then i did a 63 "Rose Beige" Galaxie 500XL Cvt, and it was sweet!!! 390 Tri Power.... I recieved my first "Heavy Metal" trophy for that one. I also had a few of those cool big Mercs...loved my '64 Park Lane with the "Breezeway" (bass ackwards) back window...remember those??? AWESOME Airstream Haulers!!

Also I dabbled for awhile in the early 60's Thunderbirds, and had quite a few in the "cage" so to speak.... I still have my '61 T Bird Convt I bought from my neighbor back in the summer/fall of 1978.... My 12 y/o son has "first dibs" on that one, he says!!!

But i guess it was about 88 or 89, i got bitten by Lincoln Fever, and for awhile it kinda took control of me, and Lincolns were coming out of the woodwork around here!! A few of my more notable ones were--- '58 Mark III Conv, '59 Mark IV Conv, '60 Mark V Conv, '60 Hess and Eisenhardt Limousine.... i had a '61 Suicide Door Conv, a '64 sedan, several '66-'67s, several '69-71 Mark IIIs.... a few Mark Vs...(one left...a '79 white sunroof car) and also a few assorted '70s Town Cars and Town Coupes...

The one that has hence been designated as my future Airstream "TV" is my '77 Town Car complete with a 460 4V powerhouse!!! Oughta be good for about 7-8 mpg on a good day, with a noticeable tailwind!!

Once, a friend asked me if i liked ANYTHING new...... I replied..... "Sure, once it get's OLD" !!!!!!!

I'm a old car buff from way back, In my younger years I restored and collected cars - Packards were my favorite. Attached is my towed Corvair. Travels behind my 250 Moho just perfect,

Could you talk to my wife? She seems to think there is something wrong with a'70 and a '71 Mark III in the driveway. It all seems perfectly normal to me!

Moosetags and I have much in common. I too have a 57 Isetta (almost finished two year project), 1929 Model A Roadster, 1955 T- Bird and I sold my Delorean last year. I also have a few 50's chevy/GMC trucks, an MGTD, Nash Metroploitan Convertible, and finally a citroen 2cv. I am currently restoring a 1950 GMC Suburban to tow the Airstream.[IMG][/IMG]

David, I love the little corvairs. I had a 65 (140) and 66 (turbo) and loved them both. I have been keeping my eyese open for just the right one to drive home (note I did not say haul - my wife would kill me if I didn't grab a decent driver these days). Just a putter around car to have some fun with.

Corvairs. I too had a very basic 63 Corvair for a short while. Dropped a 14O engine in it. Raised a few eye brows.

barry,
i just love this reasoning...before i had my airstream, i would dirve my bmw to the coast to meet up with my sister and her 31ft airstream and back in in front of it and when she was gone with her truck, people walking by would ask "did that little car tow that big trailor!" janet

You may change your mind Ron, after hearing THIS !!!

To Ron (str8strm) Lawrence.....

Commander31 (scott) here again.....

I had to chuckle when i read your post yesterday......

So....You wanna me to talk to your wife, eh????

Prolly NOT a good idea.....!!!!

I guess if truth be known, I was doing the old car thing waaaaaay before I ever met my wife, back in '89.... So, me being of the fiercely independent nature i am, i assumed she would not have a problem with my hobby, (bordering on obsession!!!) haha!!! She actually went along with it for many many years.... I was on the Board of Directors of the LCOC for so many yrs, i lost count, and was even the Mich. Region Director for 4 yrs, ending in 2001.

But (IMHO) unlike us males, she eventually tired of this whole car thing, and wanted me to purge them, and simplify..... Also wanted me to sell my boat, my house, and bikes, and everything, and start over somewhere else, like Vegas or Phoenix.... Just "because"....Basically i was given an ultimatum.....

Hmmm...Ultimatum, huh????

Also told me around 02 or 03, that if i EVER brought one of those hideous silver trailers home to out driveway, That would be IT !!!

Well, Please don't take this wrong, but you can prolly guess which tack I took on that one..... The divorce was finalized in the summer of 05.

So, now....living a completely different life than i ever thought I would be, at my age, this wasn't really in the plans..... buuuuuut.....

But I guess, if it means anything, I still have a few of my cars, and my boat, and my bikes, and even finally managed to procure a pretty cool little silver "tin can"..... in the aftermath..... so all is not lost...... (yet!!!)

So, ya sure ya REALLY want me to talk to your wife NOW ???????

take care compadre..

scott

Scott, Same story - Divorce was final in '82 - Drove off in my '67 250 SL and never looked back. Worked overseas six plus years to repair the $$ damage and have enjoyed life ever since. My kids have been great and understand. Boy, this thread is turning into a kind of soap opera. So, what ya think girls?

Mums the Word

Okay Scott, you convinced me. I'll leave well enough alone. In 18 great years of marriage, I've almost accumulated a vehicle per year . I guess a little good natured ribbing about my twin Mark IIIs is a bargain. Ron

Last year my wife and I visited the Gatlinburg /Pigeon Forge area and were lucky enough to have been there during one of the Rod Run weekends. It was incredible! Hundreds of classics and hot rods on display and on the move. It is an amazing gathering of unique and special vehicles which stretches along the main road for nearly 2 miles and viewing is completely open to the public and free. It is a must see for enthusiasts. Great Fun! Check this for the 2007 schedule: Fireside Chalets - Luxury chalets in PIgeon Forge Tennessee, with hot tub, pool table, jacuzzi
