Both sets of parents are coming for the holiday's again this year. They take up all the beds. Since the AS is only a wood floor with no shell, we'll be in the garage sleeping in our over sized teardrop trailer. We did this last year and it worked out great. Stereo, heater, 13 inch flat screen. We had a great lightening storm Christmas Eve and we were snug as a bug. Next year we're looking forward to getting up for coffee without going outside.

Ho...Ho... Holy Mackeral. Christmas in our Airstream

We are spending Christmas and New Years in our '78 31' Excella... not by choice. When we came home to Palm Bay FL from Texas, where we spent our Thanksgiving, we found the house flooded... from the inside. The water company had replaced the water meter and when they turned the water back on, they were none too gentle about it and burst the hot water line to the washer. It happened the day we left for Texas about 4 hours after we pulled out of the yard. Soooooo... for 6 days water deluged into the house, a 3br 2ba ranch.

I turned the water off at the outside shutoff, called the insurance company and then the cleanup company. I checked the water meter and found that 27,395.77 gallons of water had coursed through the house. Mold had started to form where the water had wicked up the wall. So now the house has a Post Katrina Motif, where all the walls are gutted from the 4 foot level to the floor. All cabinets are gone. Essentially the whole interior will be rebuilt because of the mold. ServiceMaster has done a great job. Minor mess ups. but all in all, a good job.

So here we are in our Home at Home which sits in the back yard. We have one Crane Facility we can use in the house which saves on dumping black water. Of course, one has to be cautious, since the walls to the bathroom are... well... gone.

It doesn't look like the house will be back in order any time soon. We can thank our lucky stars for two things. First, we live in Florida where the palm trees sway and the ocean (3 miles away) laps gently on the shore, and two, we have this marvelous Airstream Trailer. Actually, it doesn't get any better than this. We can still use the hot tub on the back porch and I have taken the opportunity to run speaker wire, telephone lines and TV cable through the house walls.

My Argosy will be home for Christmas, but I will have family at the house, so can't spend much time in him. I will be working on him over the holidays and thru the rest of the Winter. It will be good to be able to look out and see him there again. Bob has been living in Twink while doing a job in Muskogee, Oklahoma, but will be going to Minnesota right after Christmas and doesn't think he wants to risk trying to tow the Argosy up North. We're searching for another Argosy for him to use on his jobsites so I can have my beloved Argosy down here or at the lake. We did spend Thanksgiving in our Argosy.

Christmas in the Airstream

At this time I am considering a trip to Pipe Stem State Park in West Virginia. This is a great base camp from which to go skiing. We stayed there last year and almost had the park to ourselves. January will find me on the way to the FORUMS rally at Topsail Hill State Park in FL. For winter camping I have the trusty old Suburban furnace (cleaned and serviced regularly), a Big Buddy propane heater, for back up, and I also have new batteries in the carbon monoxide detector. Keeping the trailer in tip top shape means I am working on the bearings and brakes this week.

We won't be spending either Christmas or the New Year in our AS as Carmen O is in Ohio at P&S getting all gussied up - stripped, polished and clear coated and under belly painted. Other work to include ss rock guards, rock guards for front windows and awnings on street, curb and back window. I miss not seeing her parked in the driveway and can't wait to bring her home to NC. I know Steve at P&S will be glad when he is finished so I will stop bugging him about sending pictures of the progress.

We hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year whether you are at home or out and about in your AS. Travel safely.

Mac & Linda

We are in our 28' CCD for the holiday. On Lake LBJ in central TX. Have the site decorated for the holiday and even won first place in the park contest!

Holidays in the Airstream are the best.

Merry, Merry, Happy, Happy everyone!

Carolina on my mind!

Holidays make me nostalgic. I am a Tarheel. Born at Ft Bragg, raised in the Greensboro/HIgh Point area. Lived with my brother in Asheville and was stationed with the Coast Guard in Wilmington.

Sure miss the pecan pie, the sweet potato pie, and the Carolina BBQ on cheap white buns, cole slaw, and some RC or sweet tea. What ever happened to those Moonpies, "Cheerwine," hushpuppies (the food not the shoe!)?

I remember going to the Hayden Burns Planetarium EVERY year as our school trip.

Still have family there in the Julian/Liberty/Climax area.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Jerry,

Take the Airstream to Ft. Bragg, CA.

Not far from where you live.

The Mendocino coast is wonderful.

Create some new memories.

Merry Christmas!

Here are a few photos from our trip to San Antonio Lake. The weather was absolutely beautiful. Christmas was about 60 degrees. I think I got sunburn It was so peaceful. There was a total of about 10 other campers there at a campgound with a capacity of probably 1000. Lots of migating birds on the lake, so kayaking was very cool. The whole trip was definitely a do-over.

Hey Slo......... thanks for the welcome ! This trailer was here in Fl already. I saw it for sale on line at Lazyday's in Sefferin before I left home and gave a deposit over the phone. It proved to be all they said it was and the deal was done ! They run a first class operation there and for me, it was a great experience.

It will be a looooong ride home and I have a lot to learn here on the forums about winter travel and prep before we go. Might be easier to stay south of the Mason Dixon until Spring......... ?
