Chinese Airstreams??

This past weekend our daughter and family visited for Father's Day. During this visit we collected the 'sick' Thomas The Tank Engines that our 4 year old grandson plays with when here. These toys made in China have been discovered to contain lead base paint (red) and are being recalled. Our daughter explained to her son that these toys are 'sick' and she will return them, along with the ones at their home, to the Thomas Hospital and they will return when 'all better'. Lately news reports have also highlighted other Chinese made products as potential hazards to our health. The pet food contamination as being the most in the recent headlines. 2-3 months ago doorgunner's thread 'Chinese Goodyear Marathons' illustrated his and our concern of their quality standards and apparent potential faliure, a real threat to our safety. I have no quarrel with China's emergence into the world market. However, for whatever reason their attention to the health safety of it's world customers needs more monitoring than we (US) obviously are giving attention to. The tire issue is obviously a threat to Airsteamer's safety. With each after market accessory or replacement part for our coaches we Streamers must scutinize more diligently our purchases and not depend on our government agencies to do their jobs.

Neil and Lynn.

Too late-here I go on my soap box again!

Let's add toothpaste w/glycol in it also...

My Son came home with some candy from China yesterday-I threw it in the trash and expalined to him that it might be dangerous.

We do have to be vigilant about all products coming from overseas. They DO NOT have the same standards that we do...

Lot's of folks think all these foreign products are a joke. How would you feel if our entire telecommunication system were built in China? Your bank's computers? How about our weapons guidance systems?

Yes, it starts with toys, candy, then moves on to cars etc...

Apple pie and Chevrolet for us!

Beyond being a dog owner astounded at the melamine-food scandal, I've long felt that GATT & NAFTA require close scrutiny. There are many issues related to many foreign countries which all fall far beyond AIR Forums and our ability to digest them in the Off Topic subforum. I will speak against broad national bashing for its own sake. Per the Community Rules at the bottom of every page here, "Discussion of politics and religion is permitted only in association with the topic of this forum."

Please spend more of your time a bit closer to Airstream topics. Thank you!
