They brought in a DC10 tanker today. That thing drops thousands of gallons on a single pass. I'm sure the turnaround is long, though. It will take a fire hydrant going full blast to fill it back up.

That's good. Hope they get it put out soon. Man, do we need rain. I was born here, I'm 66 years old, and I've never seen it this dry.

Anyone down there need a free and safe place to keep their Airstream during this time..I have it for them. Four hours north of Austin on I-35.

We were headed to Jefferson Monday but had to turn west when we were about 20 miles north of the town because of a fire. I couldn't believe the size of the smoke cloud. We ended up in Tyler state park instead and could see & smell the smoke through Wednesday. Very nice little park in Tyler, by the way.

If it isn't already obvious, stay away from the smoke. Even a small grass fire like I drove past last week made for zero invisibility on the Interstate. The short stretch involved caused me to somehow kick myself when seated. Repeatedly.

Some pictures I received from a friend. The first picture is of the fire from Austin, TX, about 20 miles away.

We been getting some rig's in our park in Johnson City fleeing the fire area and some that had their power cut from the area due to the fires such a shame we hope this fire storm gets some relief from the winds and pray for rain

That's very nice of you to offer. Not sure if anyone has said "thank you". But "thank you".

Our unit (Texas Highland Lakes) was in the park for an informal camp out when the fires struck. All of our persons and rigs are safe.
One of our unit members has pledged $1000 if the unit members match that fund. The money is to go to the park staff that lost everything in the fire. We have matched more than $500 so far with donations from our members still coming in. Our unit will probably add funds to the donation at our October rally as well.

I've been here about a week, stationed in the EOC on Main Street.
Here's a pic of molten aluminum engine block....pulled off the ground from the carcass of a small midsize car...
The support of community is amazing. Local restaurants are feeding the workers from as far away as Austin (4 Seasons Hotel Kitchen came to feed us breakfast yesterday). Fire crews from as far as Hawaii, including Navajo Indian reservation team. Amazing....
Local residents are supporting each other quite well. Even a local restaurant has free meals for those who lost everything, and even if you didn't, the "bill" you get is just suggested amount to pay, with all the proceeds going back to the community for rebuilding... If you are in the area, it is safe to drive 71 to Smithville from Bastrop where you can see some destruction. If in the Smithville area, stop here to eat and help support the community: http://www.facebook.com/ComfortCafe
