One local tv station is reporting 30,000 acres and 600 homes burned with 0% fire containment now (Tuesday afternoon).

It appears that the home of our unit VP has burned at Spicewood. The area is closed, but one person who had been in while it was briefly open said that the entire line of homes on that block were gone. Our VP is still out on the road.

The initial information was wrong. Our friends are currently in Newfoundland and they were informed that their house had survived.

It's awful...we have friends in the Austin area and we are keeping an eye on what's going on there. We here in AZ sympathize with our TX neighbors...we made it through a major forest fire in west-central AZ that left a major recreation area devastated and some beautiful camping areas charred...the largest in the state's history. Lets hope the TX fires are brought under control before more homes and public lands are lost.

We've got a fire going now in Camp Bullis, just on the North side of San Antonio about a mile or two from our house. It's nothing like the Bastrop fire, and they've already got the Army helicopters working it. I've seen these guys in action before, and I'm confident they'll have it out soon.

I'm surprised, however, these helis aren't already working in Bastrop.

They brought in a DC10 tanker today. That thing drops thousands of gallons on a single pass. I'm sure the turnaround is long, though. It will take a fire hydrant going full blast to fill it back up.

That's good. Hope they get it put out soon. Man, do we need rain. I was born here, I'm 66 years old, and I've never seen it this dry.

Anyone down there need a free and safe place to keep their Airstream during this time..I have it for them. Four hours north of Austin on I-35.

We were headed to Jefferson Monday but had to turn west when we were about 20 miles north of the town because of a fire. I couldn't believe the size of the smoke cloud. We ended up in Tyler state park instead and could see & smell the smoke through Wednesday. Very nice little park in Tyler, by the way.

If it isn't already obvious, stay away from the smoke. Even a small grass fire like I drove past last week made for zero invisibility on the Interstate. The short stretch involved caused me to somehow kick myself when seated. Repeatedly.

Some pictures I received from a friend. The first picture is of the fire from Austin, TX, about 20 miles away.
