Smile Cancer update

Just wanted to finally get back to all with a quick update on my treatment. Surgery is scheduled for next week here in Arizona, followed by a months rest then four more months of chemo. A colostomy is certain at this point, but the doctor doesn't know if it will be permanent or not until he actually goes in and sees if reattachment will be possible. I feel very fortunate to have some very well educated and very experienced specialists here in the Phoenix area, and I am comfortable with whatever they deem necessary.

Since my diagnosis last January I have been able to see all of my kids except for one, and she is flying out here to be with us during the surgery! I am blessed to have a very supportive family. The GoFundMe site they set up for me has helped tremendously in our efforts to not fall too far behind in our bills. I have resisted bringing this up on this forum, but now have due to the insisting of many fellow Airstreamers who have contacted us wanting to help. For those who are interested, the site is under my name, Lyle Cataline.

We feel fortunate our bank accepted our request to short sale our trailer, and worked out a more affordable payment plan for the balance. We hope the new owners enjoy it as much as we did. To those who are on the fence about getting on the road, just do it! The future is not certain! We are so glad we didn't wait until it was too late. We only had 20 months, but the memories are forever.

To all who may be putting off any "routine" medical procedure, let me urge you not to. My rectal cancer was discovered during a routine colonoscopy. If I had waited any longer it would only have gotten worse.

Be safe,

Lyle

Thanks for the update Lyle. No doubt you're in for a rough ride for awhile but it looks like you have great support and the right frame of mind. It's good you have 20 months worth of memories out in your Airstream to go back to during those crappy days. Keep the communication up with the rest of us. I would like to hear those stories on the road and appreciate any advice you can offer.

Stay close to the keyboard Lyle. Look forward to hearing more.

Prayers will be offered. Hang in there. I'm a breast cancer survivor--15 years now. You can beat this thing!
