Earthbound embraced "practical" engineering aspects too. No wood products in the structure, about 700 pounds lighter than a comparable 25' AS trailer, aerodynamic exterior. From what I've been told, they tow fairly well too - better than the average white box.

My take is that Earthbound, stuck with trying to publicize a new expensive product in a down market, found a marketing angle that had broader appeal. It's easier to market "green" than "aerodynamic lightweight trailer that has nothing to rot inside."

I don't think Evergreen is making the Element anymore.

Thanks for that mention subfan1. Yep - Element seems to be "dealer stock only." Maybe AS is the only company that can manage to ask over $40k for a non-5th wheel.

Makes me wonder how the $33k Safari Alto Condo super-pop-up (which I kind of adore, with visions of towing it behind a new Forester) keeps going...

If you read the article about the corporation's demise, the couple that was behind this enterprise also lost their two homes - they were apparently 'all-in'...

You've got to admire them (warranty problems not withstanding) for trying to bring their unique product to market, going for broke, as it were...

To bad they weren't making automobiles, solar panels, or blown away by a storm, as they might have been bailed out by taxpayers...

Earthbound

Just for historical information I will post the EARTHBOUND VIDEO.
And it does have AIRSTREAM content.

Like several others on this thread I was quite interested when this make first surfaced, especially with the concepts of light wt., aerodynamics and especially "no wood"

Right from the get go however things seemed a bit shaky - CanAm here in canada were advertising as distributors and I think had at least one on the property but I don't believe ever took it to an RV show - I went, hoping to see one. I spoke with a CanAm rep at the time and he said they were having problems getting the company off the ground.

I still maintained a bit of interest, however they never offered a floor plan that was close to our Classic 30 which we really like, otherwise I might have traded in!

Guess I'm glad that never happened now!

You missed out on a 'collector item' of the future.

That's kinda funny to someone that knows Airstreams and dishonest to everyone else, comparing the prices of new trailers but showing pictures of an older Airstream.

Hi, yes; It is ironic that they start out showing pictures of ancient Airstreams for comparison with their brand new Earthbound.

I was quite tempted... I liked the modern technology they were trying to use for construction, etc. I ended up being attracted by the social aspect of Airstreaming, and put off by the obvious problems Earthbound was having getting their business up and running, and ended up with an Argosy made before I got my driver's license. I'm not sorry I missed out on the opportunity to own a rare collector trailer, and I hope to still be camping in the Argosy when I see an Earthbound advertised as such on whatever passes for craigslist in 2030.

I watched the video after I posted #26. I had seen so much info about Earthbound I didn't realize it was a video I hadn't actually seen. It's quite sleazy that they used some old exterior AND interior shots of Airstreams for their "comparison", and perhaps if they'd charged what it cost them to make the trailers they would still be in business. As I recall, their last gasp was some sort of $90k "custom built" version of what they were offering for $49k out of the gate, which I took to mean that for $90k they'd build you what they were selling the year before for $49k, and if you wanted to customize anything the bill would go up from there.

I couldn't believe I was seeing that. Kind of buyer beware. Sal
