BTW, Brenda doesn't REALLY have a gazillion kids, it's only 9.
(I always tease her that she finally figured out what causes it!)
The five oldest are all grown and married or otherwise scattered about. Only the 4 who are still at home will be coming with her, ages 9 to 17.
Be Blessed,
Karen

BIG SISTERS! What a pain!

Yes, it's true Paula was more of a mother to me than our mother was. Hence anthopologists study me because they think I was raised by a she-wolf! If I'm ferral it's all your fault!

Aren't sisters entertaining?!

In reality Paula and I have become best friends as we've grown older and she's a great sister.

Thanks Big Sis for hooking me up with your Alumin-Angels and thanks Angels for helping Brenda with her bucket list.

Karen

Hi all,
I had an email from Brenda today. She's had a bad few days so would those of you who are prayer warriors get out your armor and join me in battle. It's not anything new with her cancer, more along the lines of family drama but the emotional stress affects her in a bad way.

On the good news side:
The bank account had $350 in it as of Friday. It's a great start and will help with gas, etc. Thank you all so much.

I may decide to drive her myself if she doesn't seem up to it. I can stay with Paula and give them the privacy at the timeshare. I've done Williamsburg dozens of times.

Thank you all,
Karen

Hi All,
I wanted to update Brenda's situation a little.
On top of some family drama, when she got the new tires put on the front of her vehicle she found out it needed ball joints...$600! OUCH!

Anyway, she was all worried about it and was afraid maybe the trip wasn't going to happen but somehow her church got wind of the problem and offered to pay for the repair. (Little birds?...a miracle maybe?)

I got an email from her this morning and she said she's still breathing in and out. That's good.

We're hoping to get together for food and beverage therapy with our friend Andrea next week.

Thanks for helping and especially for prayers,
Karen

Hi all,
I spoke with Brenda today. She has her car back from the shop and is looking forward to seeing Williamsburg and DC. Her church picked up the tab for the front end work and had the mechanic do some extra routine maintainance so she should have a safe, comfortable trip.

As of Monday the bank account had $520 in it. Brenda is so blessed by the generousity of her Alumin-angels she doesn't know what to say.

I spoke to Paula (Foiled Again) earlier today. She looking forward to seeing Brenda and the kids...Pungo Pizza look out!

Karen

update

Brenda's husband probably will NOT be able to take off work to come with her. The business he works for has had to cut back on his hours for quite some time, and they are finally getting back to giving him full time work. He has taken other time off to travel with Brenda - and family finances are just too tight to lose much more work. Karen decided that a "big surprise" even a pleasant one, might not be the best thing for Brenda. I concur. So Karen just asked her if she thought her husband could get the time if we got the money. She seems doubtful that it would be a good idea. (He did manage to scrape together enough for a second honeymoon trip a few months ago so they had lots of alone time to be together. In such an intense situation - they may actually need a little time apart - so that they don't have to put up brave fronts for each other.)

The good news is that there's now adequate funds for gas, various admissions, and maybe a few nice meals out. Any additional donations would be welcome and well used, but we're in pretty good shape even as is. Best of all the church paid to put her vehicle in much better shape for the trip. Everything is converging nicely - all we have to worry about is Brenda's endurance which seems to be OK so far.

Blessings on all who have sent good wishes, prayers and donations. Karen is right, this is a truly awesome "extended family".

(Did I ever mention that she doesn't have an Airstream, or a tow vehicle capable of pulling one, but that she's thinking of getting a Casita, wrapping it with a roll of Aluminum foil and showing up at a Forum Rally as an "Airstream Wanna Be"? We'd ROTFL. At a WBCCI Rally the leadership might stroke out en masse - or lead a lynching party.

Paula

I might be able to pull an itty bitty Airstream if somebody wants to give me one!

Thumbs up

I've had a somewhat stressful last couple weeks, AS problems and such.

I feel rather grounded now and realize just how trivial these concerns are.

Glad to be a part of this endeavor, God Bless.

Hi all,
I spoke to Brenda about Jim maybe getting time off for even part of the trip but that would leave him with no sick days or personal days left until next June. Not really a good plan so it will be just her and the kids.

On another note they're all very interested in seeing Baltimore. Ships and harbors and aquariums, OH MY! So, if you Balmers would contact her directly you can make a plan. Her email is yalad@yalad.com

Looking forward to the wilds and meeting a couple of you,
Karen

Hi all,
Brenda and Hampstead38 have made contact and the kids are excited to be getting the grand tour of Baltimore.

Thanks Hampstead, you rock!

You are all blessings not only to Brenda and crew but to me also!
Be Blessed,
Karen
