Behold: The Ultra Van

Well I had NEVER seen one of these anywhere but look what we had next to us over at Beachside State Park: The aptly named "Ultra Van"

I guess these nifty motorhomes were made by Corvair and they've also got an owner's club with rallies. The owner of this 22' 1966 unit said it was very easily dented fiberglass over aluminum ribs and riveted aluminum siding.

Check out the little round headlights, it's nifty-keen!

On one of those RV specials shown, I think, on Discovery, there is one of these Ultra Vans with the front painted as a Smiley Face.

The Ultra Van is a unique motorhome. Powered by a Corvair engine and transaxle, it was designed by David Peterson (a professional aircraft designer) in the early sixties. These units were produced in limited quantities by the Ultra Van Corporation of Hutchinson, Kansas until June of 1970.
