Wow! If we ever needed an excuse to travel by Airstream the latest comments in the news media about bedbugs sure provides a good one! My wife and I have now all but sworn off hotels/motels, regardless of how supposingly clean and pristene. Is anyone else cringing at the thought of sharing your bed with bedbugs???

That is how I got an airstream. About 6 years ago I convinced my wife that we needed to try camping again, but this time not in a tent in a torential down, make that side ways pouring rain. I borrowed a popup and went to the beach. The inlaws came for the weekend to see the grand babies at the beach and stayed at a very nice hotel near by and woke with flees. They saw the kids at the beach and left. At the end of the week we had had a down that the door mat was floating away. The only thing that got wet was a pillow against the canvas. After that she said that camping was not all that bad, and we saved a lot of money with no bugs. So thank you hotels with bugs because she still liked the idea of maid service.

Bugs are not my friends...

Icky thought ~ and I am a "country gal" most things don't bother me too much! I think your wife is right, the only things missing about using an Airstream is maid service and room service... know of any trailer parks/campgrounds that accommodate those items? Might be a big selling point....Do get a bit concerned about mosquitos at campgrounds... the whole WestNile thing seems worse than bed bugs... but neither seems appealing.

I think we will keep on camping.

Bedbugs in trailers

I stayed in friends trailer at a trailer park this past weekend and got bitten by bedbugs .... trailers are just as bad if not kept up or are unused for lengthy periods.

Won't share my bed with bedbugs!

I think that's key...if it's not yours, you have no idea - it's really no different than a motel room. We only stay in our own Airstream where we know how it's been cleaned, maintained and who has slept in the beds. I wouldn't ever stay in somebody elses unless I KNEW it had been cleaned (by me!) and especially one parked unattended at a trailer park for any length of time.
