Bear Love

A year or two before we found Lily, abandoned at 8-9 months of age in a State Park in Louisiana, I was seriously, deeply, pining for another dog, and fell absolutely in love with a mama bear named Lily in Northern MN, and her baby cub named Hope.

A den cam had captured Hope's birth, then broadcast 24/7 Lily's devoted attending and ministerings to her...I was enthralled with every sight and sound.

I needed a baby to nurture, all the grands suddenly growing up, and Hope was it.

I learned a lot about black bears that year.

Needless to say, Miss Lily was named after that mama bear in northern MN.

Saw this on my news page this am....a black bear that appeared in a tree on New Years Day in a town in New Jersey, and is still there....just..sleeping.

Wonder if her den was flooded, or some other misfortune occurred that drove her out and up this tree.

An odd place to hibernate.

Lilly the bear was quite a sensation around the state when Hope was a cub. We recently moved to Colorado from Minnesota. I think Colorado has more bears than Minnesota. The bears make the evening news now and then. I just hope they don't think they are invited to dinner in our Airstream.

Now I know where the nickname Lilly came from.

Maggie, we in our NJ area have juat broken all weather records with an average of 50 plus' temp. The bears are all mixed up, a boy scout leader for an unknown reason went into a den two weeks ago and was clawed up pretty good, and now this bear napping in a very crowded area, we need normal cold winter weather.

Yep, weird weather all around the country this year....I'm sure the Bears are not the only animals confused.

I read about that scout leader, whose scouts with him probably saved his life. I hope those boys get a medal.

I saw on the news last night that this particular bear got down from the tree and wandered off.....might have been just a bit too much noise and activity in that particular location for her.

The reason is that he was being stupid. The leasing cause of human/animal problems.
