A year or two before we found Lily, abandoned at 8-9 months of age in a State Park in Louisiana, I was seriously, deeply, pining for another dog, and fell absolutely in love with a mama bear named Lily in Northern MN, and her baby cub named Hope.
A den cam had captured Hope's birth, then broadcast 24/7 Lily's devoted attending and ministerings to her...I was enthralled with every sight and sound.
I needed a baby to nurture, all the grands suddenly growing up, and Hope was it.
I learned a lot about black bears that year.
Needless to say, Miss Lily was named after that mama bear in northern MN.
Saw this on my news page this am....a black bear that appeared in a tree on New Years Day in a town in New Jersey, and is still there....just..sleeping.
Wonder if her den was flooded, or some other misfortune occurred that drove her out and up this tree.
An odd place to hibernate.
