Am I the only car junky watching this "Gavel to Gavel?"
I'm waiting for my favs to come up, A Duesenberg J. The Batmobile and an off road RV that has been on the discovery channel and any Woodie and most every Station Wagon.
Saw some last year, very interesting to watch. Not this year...
Our secretary and her husband annually go faithfully in person.
Dave
I'd go but to be truthfull... The wife is to wise to let me. She knows I'd sell the house, cars and kid to get a '39 ford woodie and I'd auction her for the Batmobile.
we have something called 'extended cable' but I can't keep up with the sheer volume of new tv stuff coming out these days and dang if I didn't miss the 'streamers on Trump last night (caught Simmons getting the axe, he had this look on his face like "just let me outta here...please...FIRE ME")
but if you're a car junkie you may be interested in this fantastic book I bought yesterday on one of my fave CA artists, Robt. Williams, originally of ZAP comix fame (and yes, I'm showing my age), called "The Hot Rod World of Robt Williams". goes into great detail about his legendary 'Eights & Aces' deuce roadster and association with all the outlaw rod scene around Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, Von Dutch, Pete & Jake, the whole SoCal rodding scene...well, the part of it that I'm interested in anyway...
was pondering if maybe my AS obsession might be linked to my appreciation of rodding and hot rod art, given that the world of AS is kind of 'outlaw' in it's own way. it sure seems that way every time I have to interact with someone or some shop in the SOB/RV world! and being in the vintage club ('69 Safari) makes me feel like flyin' my freak flag as high as possible, even as I look over the latest membership offer from AARP...;-)
Of course! I asked if she would mind if I did. C'mon, It's the Batmobile for crying out loud. She understood but said she preffered to stay. (Can I pick a great wife or what? Most guys would already be dead for even asking.)
I so understand the diff between streamers and most SOB'ers. It's not us who are freaks it's the mutitudes of the blind blissfully towing thier white boxes.
Robert Cross,
Yep, you're a car addict too. Avoid the twelve step program or you'll be driving a white Honda Accord four door thinking your the bomb.
If you can believe it we do not get the Speed Network so I can't watch BJ. My wife is too afraid of what I'll drag home next.
My buddies call though with the latest on cars like mine
- a 57 Pontiac Star Chief Safari 2dr wagon went last night for a decent buck (nicer interior than mine but that's a to-do for me).
- a 70 SS Chevelle went for serious bucks - I gotta get mine done and off the hoist and on the road or I'm dead meat in the house - my sweet Baboo-ette is anxious to drive "her car".
I guess I should fired it up on the 'net and see what's going on.
Robert's got some pretty neat cars and his have "history".
My brother in law (70 AAR Cuda) and buddy (70 Hemi 'cuda) are usually pretty interested in what's happening. The buddy with the Hemi car ordered it new, drove it sparingly for 9 years, and since then it's been parked. The BIL has not driven his AAR since '77 and he got it when it was 18 months old. He's also got a '71 Challenger convert tucked away.

I used many of the parts including the rear back window on the Pacer project (my Avatar).
Dang, I'd heard the gas crunch years were tough on musclecars, but that's harsh!
I can't watch BJ. I can't stand to see the rediculous amounts of money they go for. Plus I can't help thinking that the time I spend watching is time I should be spending on one of the projects I already have!
We feel your pain and the excitement of the Barrett-Jackson/ This is the first year in many we have been unable to go........bummmerrr! Work calls us to stay home. We will go again next year.
