I luv this stuff. Grumpys Toy went for a pile of money.
I see a 302 Boss went for over 100,000G's. In 1975 I saw a rough 70 Boss for sale in a field. The price on the window was $500. I got it for $350.
It was gettin rusty so I stripped all the good parts of it, cut up the car and took it to a scrap yard. Somebody kick me, what a mistake!
I used many of the parts including the rear back window on the Pacer project (my Avatar).
Oh dear. I had a friend with one, the orange color (Calypso?) with the slats on the back window, a real sweetheart car. He was being less than careful and hit a pole and totaled it. Today it would be an easy fix by most restorers standards. I loved that car. But RR, you are the first person I know who actually cut one up. I'd not be able to sleep if I'd done that .
My wife's brother (who has the other cars) had a chance at a '68 hemi GTX but instead only bought the motor and trans because in 1981 no one wanted big engined Chryco's where he lives. Now he's hunting down the body to put the engine and trans back in and hoping it wasn't crushed.

For $185,000 I coulda bought it. Well assuming I didn't get caught during my bank robbing spree.
The upside is when the wife came in to the room I've been banished to during the auction to throw food at me she saw a late '50's Dodge and a '60 Chrsyler Windsor she loved. There may be a massive finned rocket tailighted monster in our future.
Coloradobus,
I really can not be trusted in an auction like B-J.
Barry,
In '77 while I was in high school my Dad would not let me buy a Hemi GTX for $500.00 It was bone stock down to tires and hubcaps. He somehow thought I would race it if I had it.

Wow, Goin, that's sad news about your Dad's choice of car. Because my parents wanted me off of fast motorcycles quickly he bought me a '32 Ford truck to hot rod when I was 15. Big mistake - I needed a faster and bigger bike to get parts . His driveway was never his after that.
For the most part who ever knew that these cars would attain the value they have reached today? I mean the Batmobile at close to $200 Grand? It's a scary thought. There are very few cars being made today that will excite the passion we see at these auctions in 20 years I'm afraid. We had it made as teens and young adults from an automotive standpoint and if we'd only realized, like some did, that there was going to be world that lusted after these things we could have been quietly parking them away for today.

I love to watch Barret Jackson. Back when I was young and stupid I had a 57 Star Cheif, 60 Corrvette, 66 GTO, then I discovered Kawasaki. Sold the cars, I've been rippin and tearin eversince. Of course that raises the age old question, What the HE** was I thinking!! Oh well, I love to go fast!
Always a "Must See" time of year watching folks with lots of extra cash spending it on great toys! '59 Vette for $220K....yikes! Tonight will be the night for records more than likely.
