Barack Obama's Limo is a truck

Barrack Obama receives a new limo on his first day in office. The last time the presidential limo, or state car, was replaced was eight years ago when GW took office. Only, Bill couldn't wait to let GW be the first president to ride in it and had to take it out for a spin. GW, on the other hand, wanted to let Obama be the first president to ride in the new state car and it followed as he and Obama rode to the inauguration in GW's current limo. They had to ride together because both cars bare the presidential seal and Obama couldn't use the state car until he had been sworn in without the sitting president riding in it by protocol or law one.

This limo is actually built on the GM Sidekick truck platform:
Truck-based Cadillac limo being built for Obama

And there is a brief description and photo here:
President-elect Obama gets a new Cadillac limo

On GW's limo, the only factory OEM stock items were the head lights, tail lights, and hood ornament and other badging. Everything else was fabricated to look like a factory Cadillac but scaled larger. On Obama's, the roof line is 6' high and everything else is beefier. The glass on both cars is so thick that although untented and completely clear, it appears green just due to the thickness. Only the driver side window operates and it lowers only 3". The floor is 5" thick armor plating.

Wonder why they decided to nix the duelies?

As soon as I saw the limo on tv today, I thought "it does not look right".
Something was a little off.

The wheels were a giveaway. Big.
Cadillac using a truck chassis, interesting.

How much can it tow??

Need more data:

They didn't answer the one real relevant question: what's her tow capacity??!! Now, really, wouldn't an Airstream look "just right" in tow behind this baby?

Maybe Biden will inherit Cheney's Airstream, and they'll use the Cad to tow it about!

Watching TV they said the Obamobile was sans Prez seal, or the seal was covered, and the seal would be made official after Obama officially became prez.

I was slightly offended earlier today when they said the Secret Service had nicknamed his limo "the Beast". That was our nickname for our old Excursion - and aptly named. President Obama's "new" beast would make a honkin' tow vehicle - awesome image - silver and black... But is there a place to attach a roof rack for kayaks? Maybe they didn't think of everything!

Did ya'll notice the tires on that cow of a vehicle? They didnt appear to be 'inflated'...they looked to be some sort solid or semi-solid material...assuming to be flat proof...way cool..

Yes, well I have been to DC many times, and went to CIA and FBI headquarters, thoes tires are bullet proof, the tires will take the bullet but wont let any air out. Very pricey! Pretty plain looking, but very cool!

To me, that new limo looks like a cross between a Cadillac sedan and an Escalade!

Here is the gatling gun-equipped Suburban that follows Cadillac One. See the bullet-spraying Chevy in action. Presidential Limo: Presidential Gatling Gun-Equipped Suburban Badder Than New Cadillac Limo

I'm a Suburban owner and I have "time" with a gatling gun in the late 60's.My suburban is not as well equipped but it is equipped enough to provide me protection.

Do we really need this stuff????

What kind of spending bill was this pork barrelled onto????

Give the MARINES a NEW whirley bird to fly the new guy around in.

(for us vets that would by FNG)

For consumer use, at least on a "beastly" burb, I think the pump-action shotguns are definitely over the top unless they could be rigged to shower down paper messages of "you jerk". However the tear gas cannons are exactly what I have been needing for those pesky tailgaters just before their obnoxious pass and cut-off.

"At Last", was that dance romantic or what, ahhh?

well...more than "vintage" weight, for sure. But probably slightly less than a new one from the factory.

Oops, my bad. Topkick is the one they build the large GM Class C motor homes on.

I bet this thing doesn't have much towing capacity after all that armor plating and 5" thick glass was added on.

I don't know the financial on this one, but back in the day the CIA leased President Nixon's Lincoln from Ford Motors for $1/year. That's why it is in the Ford museum and not one of the nation's museums.

No, I think that Nixon's limo is at the Nixon library in Yorba Linda, Ca. All other Lincoln limos up to Kennedy's is at the Henry Ford Museum.

Well, I guess that's a double oops.

Actually, I thought Kennedy limo was renovated and used for Nixon. Maybe not. I know there is a Kennedy buff down in Florida that has recreated the Kennedy limo in every detail...so much so that it was "borrowed" to be used in the JFK movie a few years ago.
