Bad battery in my Chevy

Went to start my pickup this morning and it wouldn't.
I knew the battery was on it's last legs.
I also knew it was gonna need $1000 worth of brakes, tires in another 10K miles, a fuel modulator valve and with 140K miles who knows what else. (Makes me kind of sad that I spent that many hours/miles of my life in the old one in 5 years) I almost pulled the trigger on a new one last summer but didn't quite. Tax lady told me then I could use the deduction. So I got a neighbor to jump it this morning and drove it straight to the dealer. Found a new one (06) just like my old one except it doesn't have as many gizmos on the inside.
I can live with that. At least it has a good battery...
A guy's got to brag about a new truck a little doesn't he? Somewhere?

Great looking truck. And absolutely, brag away. Wish I could afford a new one!

That's kind of an expensive battery, isn't it? $30k, but, hey, it comes with a new truck...

A 2006? Does that mean 'deep discounts?' I saw yesterday where Dodge is sending out big vouchers to past customers for several tousands off '06 models, and they also were offering close to $8000 dealer incentitives on over 175,000 left over '06 models. Although I drive a Duramax, if I were in the market for a battery, hey several thousand off a battery would be hard to turn down.

Have no intention of arriving at the grave safely, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, throttle in the other, totally worn out and screaming

It's the 2500 HD 4X4. 6.0 liter gas. Dark Green
Has tilt, cruise, auto, air, trailer tow package but not the power windows or locks this time.
I don't really like diesels - not in my tractors Or my pickups. They maybe get better mileage but I think they stink and they're noisy. JMO
Chevy gas a red tag sale going on right now trying to clear out the last of the 06 models.
This one had just come in on a swap from some other dealer.
Otherwise it would probably have been sold already.
I'm self employed - ie sole proprietorship - so it really just comes down to: Do I want to send Uncle Sam a couple of hundred extra bucks each month and drive an old pickup or send the bank a few hundred $ and drive a new one?
The last few years the IRS has allowed some pretty hefty depreciation on
these things.
To me it's a no brainer...
