Reading AOL today about 10 magic uses for baby oil. One that I already knew about was that it will take bandaids off without ripping your skin. You can also lubricate your shredder by shredding a few sheets of paper soaked in baby oil.

Supposedly it's good for preventing soap scum buildup in your shower, but make sure none drips under your feet or WHOA! I'm going to have to try that one, but I still think it's mainly elbow grease that removes soap scum buildup.

If you get paint on your skin, baby oil will help you get it off without pain... someone please test that with POR-15! It's pretty good at getting bubble gum out of a child's hair, though I prefer peanut butter for that. The kid will sit still and eat peanut butter out of the jar while you're working the ICK out.

For those who don't know, baby oil is perfurmed mineral oil. Plain mineral oil is of course less expensive than baby oil, so if you want to go inexpensive, just get plain mineral oil.

So a simple question: do you know it would take sticky numbers off an Airstream without damaging the clear coat?

Anybody's guess, however most of the time, some kind of oil will release most adhesives. 5 to 15 minutes of wait time is often required.

I don't see how it would hurt the clearcoat unless it were left on for days or weeks - after all when you tow an Airstream, you're towing through all kinds of of highway based funk. The biggest components of that are unburned fossil fuels, rubber detrius and spilled lubricants. One of the reasons highways are more slippery right after it starts raining is that it takes time for the rain to wash down the crap on the highway.

Veggie oil actually gets off those nasty little perfed paper labels from plastic, teflon, and wooden items you buy from the store. So does lighter fluid and sewing machine oil.

As I mentioned peanut butter will loosen chewing gum from about anything - human hair being the most difficult thing. However since there's a lot of peanut OIL in peanut butter, IMHO it's that component that does the deed.

So, who is going to do a "death match test?" 4 WBCCI numbers - peanut butter on the first one, veggie oil on the second, mineral oil on the third and sewing machine oil on the fourth. Work up a little bit of an edge with a plastic scraper or plastic razor blade, then repeat the effort at one minute intervals to find if any work, and if more than one works better - declare the winner of the death match.

There is almost no peanut oil in peanut butter.

Peanut butter is the waste product of the peanut oil extraction process. Peanut oil is so much more valuable than plain vegetable oil that the removed oil is replaced with a little vegetable oil before packaging the peanut butter "waste" for retail sale.

Avon's Skin So Soft! I use it more on adhesives, paint, caulk and bugs and tar and water spots than I do on me but it sure is handy! Another one of those miracle hundred use products that is handy to carry.

Lynn I lost my can of bag balm but agree that is great stuff for irritations, I never knew it could do the trick for gummy stuff. Great tips here for when we find ourselves stuck in the thick of it.

I've found the best misuse of a product to remove sticky stuff is Lysol - amazing stuff!

Foiled again,

We were on a beach in Spain and got tar on our feet (the no see'um tar balls in the sand). A local recommended olive oil, which to my amazement, easily cleaned our feet. I figured we would need lacquer thinner!

Howdy! Someone told me to use a little baby/mineral oil in my black tank...anyone ever heard or tried this advice? Mineral oil works great on mascara....helps your eyelashes grow really long.....can't you see them from where you are???? (Yes, I am batting my eyelashes!) Happy TEXAS New Year....blessings...Callie

Chemically speaking, baby oil probably is not good for the black tank. It floats on top and spreads thin. This oil barrier keeps the air from the vent pipe away from the black water. The beneficial and less stinky aerobic bacteria in your tank dies. Anaerobic bacteria thrives and is more stinky. I don't think the oil ever gets a chance to lube the valve seals. Silicone grease is a better choice for lubricating slide valve seals, anyway.

We use pharmacy grade mineral oil mixed with vinegar to polish our woodwork. Works great and no smell.

Baby oil & Skin-so-soft both have mineral oil bases. The only difference is fragrance and viscosity. (Check the labels)
Food grade mineral oil can be bought at any drug store or WallyWorld and is great for rubbing down wooden butcher blocks once or twice a year.

I had a wart problem on my hand when I was in the ninth grade...the doctor gave a me a small vile of mineral oil to carry in my pocket, and he said to keep them (the warts) constantly covered...which I did and very soon they went away. Seems like they have to have air to live, and the oil cuts off that supply.
I have used Baby Oil to get paint off of my arms and it really does work.

Hi, it's been a really long time since I had a baby in my house. [mine] But one of my favorites is Mayonnaise. My all time favorite though is lighter fluid. I have a speaker system for my computer that was making noise while adjusting the volume. I took it apart and sprayed it with contact cleaner, about three times, and it still acted up. I squirted lighter fluid into it once and no more problems.
