ATV's are they a viable way to explore trails?

I was thinking that some of these parks are so hugh they can't be walked or biked.

So I was thinking about using an ATV, not like a crazy kid, but to explore areas beyond a walking distance.

Or a small motor bike

Your thoughts.

Ps: are they legal at most parks?

Depends on the locale, in NC most if not all motor cycles and four wheelers are prohibited. There is one area of Uhwarie national forest that allows 4x4, and off road riding. I suspect this is going to be the case most places.

You might want to check into a dual sport bike, something like a Suzuki DR400....Kawasaki also makes the KLH...They are great for road riding and also for off road use. They are street legal requiring a drivers license to operate. You can explore all you want without getting into trouble in Federal and State land that permits riding. Some other states require an ORV (Off Road Vehicle) plate to ride legally if you have strictly an off road bike. There's a lot of great spots for exploring out there...check out the Hatfield McCoy Trail System www.trailsheaven.com in W. Virginia..it's suppose to be great!Ride safe and Happy Trails!

You can't use them in Georgia State Parks. Only street legal, licenced (tagged) vehicles can be used and they have to have a parking permit. I found out that golf carts (I though environmentally friendlier than my diesel truck) would only be permitted for use by the disabled to travel from the campsite to the bathhouse if disabled permitted.

ATV Uses

We have an ATV mostly for work and some pleasure. Some off roaders claim they are the most versitile vehicle for remote adventures. Some states allow them on the road. There is an extensive network of trails nationwide usually run by local groups. The states use some of the fees from registrations to support the trail system.
So if you are an ATVer, your Airstream will add style to the adventures.

Parks are not the best place to use ATV's but almost all public land is open to ATV's. They are really great for folks who have a hard time getting around but still want to see natures best. Check you local rules and regs.
