I'm guilty as charged. Surfin' at work! Sometimes the computer is just working through some programs and I have to have something to occupy my time. I have also caught my supervisor checking out a few farm tractor sites so he can't say too much

I also cannot watch any of the DVDs that the State sends out. Is anyone surprised?
It was pretty much the same scenario for the State of Delaware. I can't remember all the blocked catagories, but I do recall they screened out sex, drugs and rock & roll (music download sites), gambling and bomb construction. Because the nature of some investigations led to unusual places, I got a pass on the screened/blocked sites, but everything was still tracked.

Do you remember that software that allowed you you to hot key to another page if you saw the boss approaching, or those wide angle mirrors that mounted on your monitor in case someone approached from behind?

Me neither.

Took fifteen minutes from "Work" (right) to apply for Social Security yesterday.

I surf at work all the time. I am hoping they will fire me so I can do something more rewarding, like work on Airstreams.

view from the bosses side...

I'm a CIO at a school district. There are clearly expectations that folks work when they are at work. This is really a matter of degree. Some staff spend too much time in non work related activities. Having chat, forums or other distractions just replaces the other forms of work avoidance from the past. Folks who occasionally check their favorite news feeds or forums, were hard workers who accomplished their required work functions before the distractions.
The real deal... I evaluate my folks on their work product. I don't need to drug test, key log their computers or any other snooping. I know what they are capable of and how much they need to do. That is how I evaluate them.

Good observation, Ranger. After only 2.5 months of retirement, I'm totally exhausted. Those self-imposed deadlines and goals seem to be more demanding.
