Only in America is right. It's not a link, its a Word document. I enjoy a fine cigar now and then and I'll remember this next time I enjoy one.

Well, flyfsher,

Sometimes maybe there is justice in this great country of ours!!!

And yes, uwe, it is a word doc that should open right up!

I don't know if there's another way of copying and pasting the word files right into this box, can someone advise?

One of my hobbies are urban legends:

Comments: This story is decades old and likely originated as a joke. A much briefer version appeared in a 1965 toastmaster's manual and was apparently the direct inspiration of the earliest Internet variant, posted in a Usenet discussion in February 1996:
A cigar smoker bought several hundred expensive stogies and had them insured against fire. After he'd smoked them all, he filed a claim, pointing out that the cigars had been destroyed by fire. The company refused to pay, and the man sued. A judge ruled that because the insurance company had agreed to insure against fire, it was legally responsible. So the company paid the claim. And when the man accepted the money, the company had him arrested for arson.
We find the tale set in North Carolina for the first time in this Usenet version dated February 1997:
Something heard on the radio: A North Carolina man, having bought several expensive cigars, insured them against... get this... fire. After he had smoked them, he then decided that he had a claim against the insurance company and filed. The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason that the man had consumed the cigar normally. The man sued. The judge stated that since the company had insured the cigars against fire, they were obligated to pay. After the man accepted payment for his claim, the company then had him arrested for... arson.

As it traveled the email circuit the story grew longer and more detailed, and by the time 1997 was out the latter-day version set in Charlotte, NC had become standard. David Boraks, a reporter for the Charlotte Observer, tried vainly to authenticate it. "Somewhat sheepishly," he wrote, "I've tried to verify the cigar story. But searches of court records and newspaper files fail to turn up a single case or N.C. news article matching the incident." Not that anyone should be surprised.
A new variant claiming the scheming cigar aficionado was himself a lawyer began circulating in mid-2002.

Cigarson

Snopes.com also verifies that all that smoke is an urban legend. Too bad, too.

ULs can be fun. I recommend the book "The Mexican Pet." Story telling is a true art, and finding the source is half the fun.

Red flags:

No dates, names or locations in the story.

"a friend of a friend told me" is called a "FOAF" situation.

Cigars...love 'em.

Just this weekend I was attending an antique show and had walked up to one of the dealers and as we were talking they walked to there truck and reached for a cigar and brought it back and lit up. Now to your surprise it was a women. Here in the south that's pretty rare. I just wonder what the look on my face, looked like.

Hi Rebel Beck,

Can't say that I've ever seen a woman smoking a cigar, unless you count 'Elaine' on Seinfeld!

Airstream as a Cigar Humidor

Or perhaps a small temperature/humidity controlled walk-in room inside the A/S. Might have to get one that's 3 or 4 feet longer to accomodate it?

I've seen the diamond-plate humidors, but have not seen one yet that is a small replica of an A/S, lined with cedar and an opening top.

Still there is no problem with the smoke inside the A/S. My wife allows that I can smoke anywhere I want, as long as it's at least 1/4 mile away and down wind. A Macanudo H.R.H. Prince Philip Maduro or a Romeo y Juieta Cameroon Deluxe with a glass of Laphroaig...smoke on smoke.

The first time I saw a woman (actually 2 women) smoking cigars, I was in a cafe at Tivoli Garden in Copenhagen, Denmark. We were quite taken a-back, but after giving the place a good look around........there were several more women also enjoying their stogies. Different cultures.......different customs.

Viv-le-differance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So this one is 6 years old....

I enjoy the smell of a good pipe or cigar although cigarettes aren't pleasing to me. I smoke cigars and know its not a joy for everyone, but it's hard to beat a cigar, adult beverage and a campfire to crank up the relaxometer. Unless it cranks someone else's down. :-/

I read the LONG thread about campfires (a mixed love/hate relationship expressed there to say the least...). I expect camp fires and the smell of wood smoke at a campsite though I can understand how problematic it can be for those with asthma. Is there a consensus on cigars at campsites?

What do you think?
