Any owner's of old Mercedes cars?
I have always loved the old Mercedes cars, particularly the diesels, (well actually the Gullwings too but who can afford one of those?) and I have owned a 124 chassis 300D Turbodiesel for 20 years now. I really like the look of the 124 chassis SDLs, and the 123 chassis 240s with the diesel and standard shift, although finding a nice one is tough. A lot of people like the S class coupes but I still like the diesel work horses better, although if I had room to park one I might like a nice 450SL for a Sunday driver. I am getting ready to do a few things to my 300, mainly paint and a new rear deck and fix the AC and a power steering leak.
It still goes down the road beautifully and gets high 20's for MPG

Hi
How about a Gull wing 200 (no that's not a typo). Six cylinder engine with dual carbs ....

Had a 73 220D for 14 years, then a 1965 300SC coupe (112 body). Latter was pretty pricy to maintain with the air suspension and after market AC, but it sure drew attention.

I learned to drive on my aunt's 300D, a.k.a. the "old ladies' car" as I called it.
What I really wanted her to get was this (preferably with Richard Gere behind the wheel!).....

Aught vintage ones in the driveway now
I had a 1976 450SL for two decades, sans Gere, but driven by my wife

Yup, liked the W124's but loved the W123's, especially the stationwagons and coupes; bulletproof, indestructible cars.
The only diesel engines that I have owned that come close to the Merc's is a Hino 3B powered 1984 Toyota BJ -60 Landcruiser and the 5.8L Isuzu 6BD1A (albeit with a BAE turbo kit) that I have in my 1983 Airstream 310; removable sleeves makes this engine almost endlessly rebuildable.
Just love three wire diesels......
Cheers
Tony

My late husband and I drove 240D's for years, and did a lot of the maintenance ourselves. Amazingly well built cars, though they did have some weird systems (vacuum door locks, etc.).
I still have a set of manuals and some special tools I'd like to pass down to another Mercedes diesel operator. PM me if interested.

Every once in a while, I love to slip a Mercedes restoration in between my Airstreams. They are so well built, which makes it so darn rewarding. This 73 450SE came to me very cheap, because it was not running. Ended up to be the wrong fuel pump along with a messed up fuel pressure regulator (Someone tried to compensate wrong fuel pressure by adjusting the fuel pressure regulator ) Ran like a charm with only 73k miles on it.
