I collect makeup compacts from the twenties & thirties. mostly silver & enamel or cloisonné ~ before the days of mass produced disposables.

I, on the other hand, run with my dog around an obstacle course as fast as we can. Now that is a sensible thing to do!

I used to just take photos when I went someplace because I wanted the memory....then people started wanting to pay me for the photos.
So, I guess the strange part is the hobby turns some cash from time to time, and now I am being invited to participate in galleries.

Sorry, no, I don't. That's a pretty exotic radio, and certainly a lovely one. Did your family have one a a certain point, or are you just interested in it because of its design?

The smoke does but the whistle doesn't, bad capacitor. I have a rebuild kit for it. You are right about the pull mor. The one I bought has the larger one in it. Probably an inch think or so. It is in pieces right now. There is a company that sells new parts for them called RFG Co. I probably have 15 or so engines. I love to get my hands on a circus set. $$$$

My great uncle, Wells Coates, designed it. So I'm always on the look out for this particular radio. I'd love to own one, one day.

Now that's something to be proud of. My great (add a few more greats) uncle was indicted for murder - for shooting Alexander Hamilton...and then later tried for treason.

Wow, congratulations! Like many rare (and attractive) old radios, you never know where you will find one. But where evere you do find one, I have no doubt that you will pay a pretty penny to own it.

I don't go in for the "Junos" of old radios, but more the "You-knows", like ones people actually owned that I knew.

For the last few years, I've tried to concentrate on Viking and Electrohome radios, that were almost without fail made close to where I live.

I have been known to collect a few vintage bamboo fly rods. I have restored a few of the not-worth-so-much kind for the practice so I can graduate up to the worth-more ones. They are getting hard to find and everyone seems to think any bamboo fly rod is worth an amount in the four digits, which only a few are. My focus for collecting is any Granger, which were made in Denver, and the higher end Heddon's, from no. 14 and up. Heddon's model number was the actual selling price when new which gives you some indication of what prices were like back then.

Brad, my neighbor back in my hometown collects bamboo fly rods and old reels. He taught me how to tie flys. It was fascinating seeing the old rods. They looked so delicate.
