Thank you for the update. I have been wondering how things were going. I have always enjoyed your insightful comments and humorous outlook on life...needed now more than ever. Prayers and hugs to Marie

Marie was taken to the county fair, and subsequently returned to the hospital. Currently she is scheduled to be released from the hospital on the 22nd.

Good news, Terry!

I know Marie will be glad to be home, and you to have her there.

Hugs to you both,

My friends husband had a stroke several months ago. He regained use of his leg quickly but his arm movement was very slow coming back. Slowly but surely he's seeing improvement in his arm so tell Marie to hang in there and not get too discouraged. Sometimes it takes time. Paula's right - now is a good time to look at your house and get it ready. In my experience with my mother, when you're insurance company says your done with inpatient care, the facility moves quickly to discharge so best to be prepared.

Good morning. I thought I'd provide an update. I took Sophie to the hospital yesterday to visit Marie. They were both happy to see each other, but Sophie had reservations about the wheelchair. Marie continues to make slow progress, and can move her leg somewhat. It's gonna be a while before she goes dancing. She asked the doctor if she would be able to dance when she was done with therapy, and the doctor, bot suspecting a thing, said "sure!" She said, "That's great, because I never could dance before!"
Later on today, I'm heading over to the local Big Box hardware store (Ace is closed on Sundays), and pick up some assist bars for the toilet and tub. I need to mount them so they anchor in studs in the walls, but of course I have no idea where any are in the house. In the past, I have tried using the 16" on-center guide, and the studs aren't where they should be. In one room, I have a series of holes in the wall, starting at 15 1/2", and continuing nearly 6" before I found a stud. I really don't want to do that again, it would look like Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles installed the bars...

Terry, try a stud finder while rattling around in that big box. They work well and you can be kinder to your walls.

I can hear in your post that you are starting to hit your stride with all of this, and feeling somewhat positive and optimistic.

That is so important, Terry. Positive begets positive. Look for and acknowledge what is good, every day, and it will help.

Hugs to you both.

Good evening. I thought I'd give another "Marie Report".
She is standing, and putting weight on her "bad" leg. I got her some shoes to wear, and she is having some initial difficulty with them, as they are heavier than the slippers she was wearing.
She also says I have to come to meet the therapy people Saturday and demonstrate I can take care of her. Umm... She didn't seem to appreciate it when I made as if I wasn't going to show up...

Hi Terry....glad to hear that Marie is making some progress and that she'll soon be back at home.

Look at it this way. If YOU can successfully teach Newbies everything they need to know about their new Airstream....well, you can MORE than take care of Marie. Trust me. I speak from experience.

Looked for you when I was out there a couple of weeks ago but you were doing business.

Best to you and hug to Marie! Barry

Hi everyone, I am doing much better. The left leg is starting to function more, and a new brace has been ordered to help. Left arm has slight weakness, but very functionable.

I appreciate all of the best wishes and hugs and they have kept me going during the ruff times.

Therapy asked me for my goal when I got here and I told them to get in and out of the airstream so I can travel. We are working on it.

Marie

Sounds like you got her to help quickly. That makes all the difference.

My mother-in-law in England was hours laying on the floor before help came 16 years ago. She is still completely paralyzed on the right side and, and after a second stroke two years ago, now has about a 20 word vocabulary down from 50 words. Mentally, she is all there.

Wish you all the best and get lots of rest as care taking is strenuous both mentally and physically.

I just caught this thread today. I am so glad that you are doing so well Marie. I have considered you both my unmet friends for years. You both have amazing strength and love. My prayers will be for a quick recovery and Airstream travel in your near future. Just be careful when you get home as recovery will be slow Stay upbeat and patient with your small improvements.
your Airstream friend
Kay
