Another Airstream dealer Dropping Out?

I drove down I-95 yesterday and looked over at Safford RV to see how many Airstreams they had in stock. NONE were visible from the highway.

Just checked their website. They have 2 Interstates - leftovers? Looks like they are definitely dropping the line.

Anyone hear anything definite? They are still listed on the Airstream website.

I noticed it too, Thor has pretty much run the AS and its way of life into the ground, if it keeps up I believe the AS will become a thing of the past.
Too many not carrying inventory any more, most you have to order if you want one. There are also less and less repair shops as well.

I also noticed that Bates RV in Tampa Fl has increased there number of SOB's. I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I want to have the opportunity to purchase new one day.

I just plucked around on Safford's website. I'm seeing at least ten new Airstream trailers in inventory, along with three class B's.

My memory is that Bates has always had some SOBs as well as Airstreams, with various brands coming and going. When I was there in January, they had almost one of every AS model, so I don't think you need to worry.

I'm certain that in these economic times you are going to see a few dealers drop out. It is a natural side effect of a slow/struggling economy. Those who survive will be in a better position to service the demand and they actually may make a few dollars! Just a few weeks ago my wife and I stopped by both Bates stores and at that time they certainly had Airstreams. Colonial had more and frankly I felt that the salesman had a much broader understanding of the product. That is where we purchased our Bambi.
My guess is that the strong will survive and that we have nothing to worry about. It is Natures way after all...

Sad to hear about declining inventories at the dealers mentioned. Here in the Pacific NW, Airstream Adventures NW has a thriving AS-only dealership in Portland OR and Kent WA and I believe Sutton RV is experiencing strong AS sales.

Only the strong survive and for good reason.

I stopped at a AS dealer in Lubbock, TX last year to have my heater system looked at and asked why he had not a single AS on the lot. He said Hail. Only custom orders because anything on the lot is subject to hail damage.

If Texas dealers don't keep them under hail netting they best have indoor storage someplace. When we lived in Texas we stored our Airstream under cover in a rented storage yard. It's a "Must" in North and West Texas!

Talking Reports of my untimely death have been greatly exagerated...

I was past Safford about a week ago and they had a several Airstreams out front. According to their website they have ten 2012 trailers in stock at the moment.

Maybe Saffords had the rest at a show somewhere. Our local Airstream dealer had most of his Airstream inventory and a bunch of SOB's at a private RV show they set up at a local Walmart this weekend. I went by to take a look. Had my first close look at the Eddie Bauer model. If I win the lottery I am buying one. Love the way it is laid out and finished.
