I got aggravated with the checkers at my grocery store always asking me if I wanted to buy "ice or stamps" (driveway salesmanship) and I made up the following smart ass reply "No, I quit mailing ice because it just wasn't working out".

"What kind of fool do you think I am?"

Why, is there more than one kind?

The annoying girl at the McDonalds drive-thru with the same high pitched, overly friendly, "telephone voice" as I call it.

Every morning I order a sausage biscuit/McMuffin and a large Diet Coke and every morning she asks "Would you like to add a hash brown and make it a meal for only a dollar more?".

I want to say "If I don't have a hash brown is it not really a meal? Does it only qualify as a snack? If I wanted a hash brown don't you think I would've asked for one?".

I hate when people try to up-sell.

"That" and "the fact that"...

Anyone get an ear bruise caused by the fact that "that" is the written version of the verbal "um"? (argh, insidious ain't it)

A Google search of our Airforums site returns "about 38,703 results" for the exact word phrase "the fact that".

And "that" used alone returns "about 109,008 results".

"That" can be omitted from 77.55% of all sentences without harm!

Another one courtesy of my mother-in-law: "You better don't"

That is a complete sentence she uses when you are doing something that bothers her.

I love statistics. But, 82.19% of all quoted statistics are simply invented.

The "bumper-to-bumper" warranty I purchased when I bought my truck does not cover the bumpers or a bajillion other parts on the truck.

And the other day I was told by the store I bought my "waterproof" work boots at and also the manufacturer (Rocky) that waterproof does not mean you can stand in water.

"Thanks a lot!"

Because no one ever says, "Thanks just a little!"

Interesting thread - I forget now whether or not I have contributed, but here is one that is more strange an hard to explain than actually annoying.

Why do people when replying or commenting, so often they will preface their reply by saying "Yes--No" followed by their reply !?

Is there any logic at all behind it, or is it maybe just some nervous response that just gets blurted out out automatically whilst we collect our thoughts and decide how to reply?.

I'm probably guilty of doing it myself, but I try not to do so!
