An American tragedy

Remember Pearl Harbor.

Today, is that infamous day.

7:55 am Hawaii time, 65 years ago.

I heard on CNN todat that this could be the last reunion of the survivors of that attack. They return every 5 years and given the age of the remaining people and reunion in 2011 seems unlikely. The loss of life on the USS Arizona has a special meaning to people who reside in the state that the ship is named after.

Lets hope in 60 more years just as many people stay the course for the World Trade Center attack anniversary.

Both atrocious acts of war and terrorism that made us stronger as a nation.

My dad was in the Navy in Honolulu working in the Aloha Tower..he was a clerk typist, and actually was assigned to log in and out the tugs that would come into the harbor..he was off that fateful day..he never talked about his time in the service until on his death bed in 2001 two weeks after 911, when he was reliving his past in flashbacks!!!..

Btw, when visiting AZ a c ouple of years ago, I saw the other 'anchor' on display from the Arizona at the capital..

The NYTimes has an interesting perspective on the secret salvage operation in the years that followed: Editorials & Opinion - Pearl Harbor Revisited - New York Times

I've heard that the Arizona won't be around much longer as it's literally being eaten away......
