Greetings Airstreamers,
I am working on a project and would love your help. I hope to compile a comprehensive list of all Airstream models ever made. Below is what I have so far, but I am sure there is something missing. Special thanks to the following sites for giving me a good start:
Airstream History.com, Silver Wheels
Vintage Airstream Photo Archives
Fred's Airstream Archives - Airstream and Argosy Trailers

I was not sure about the 18 footer. Sounds like a description rather than a model. For example, was there a name plate with "18 footer" on it?

Umm...this may help get you through the 70's. I created this matrix a couple of years ago to help figure out the age/features of the vintage trailers. Although it looks like you have most of them covered...

Vintage Trailer Features

It resides on my website, under "Links"

The "18-Footer" is a "no label" trailer...not missing, it never had one - why, I don't know.

since you have done work or do do work for a/s corp...

why not just contact them?

here is the 'company list' back to '54...

http://www.airstream.com/airstream/p.../weights-1.pdf

i see lots o'gaps...

but u r mixing models and trim levels...

4 example, how many 'models' are made right now?

sovereign of the road, was before sovereign.

caravel is missing...

75th anniversary edition...

wbcci edition...

safari sport

euro edition

ccd

the canadian models...

railroad sleeper cars...

slide models...

not to mention the funeral coaches, shuttle buses, book mobiles, dental clinics and so on...

cheers

there's also differences between ohio and california models back in the day. california made flying clouds have the whale tail, ohio just has the 13 panels in the rear. i'm sure there's differences for other models as well.

Right 2air' - I was also looking at the Airstream weights list -- many missing models. R.J. Dial has come up with a broad list at Vintage Airstream Photo Archives. Click on the active links to see much, much more - including the California variations.

64Safari - I would strongly recommend that you listen to theVAP.com episode 37 about the transitions in the 1950s -- thanks to our 47WeeWind, Fred Coldwell, the VAC historian. A model called 'Commodore Vanderbilt'? My head hurts... You will get a very good explanation of 3 trim levels -- basic, Land Yacht & International. Episode 30 is another with Fred talking about the 30s & 40s.

InsideOut's list includes the Byam Holiday -- being Byam designed it is WBCCI eligible but was a spam-can trailer not built by Airstream -- Fred said its floor plan was copied into the Bubble interestingly.

Not to muddy the waters...!?

Not sure about your 'grand scheme'... don't get me wrong, I LOVE the idea but the execution looks like it is headed for ROUGH waters....

As a 'for instance' - I have a '92 34' Classic.... but it is a Limited as well. Not sure as to your list, since the Classic and the Limited are listed, but not "linked" as they are on my title and nameplate... Mine is a "Classic Limited".

Again, not trying to rain on anyone's parade, or muddy the waters that Airstream created.... but then, well! there are just those darned exceptions to every rule.... Even in AirStreamland.

Hope this a help...? Let me know if you need more info!

OK, I have taken your comments and re compiled the list. I have not put in all variations to keep it less confusing. For example, I have included "International" once, and not all variations - such as CCD ,Ocean Breeze and european models.

I have also pulled some one-offs and experimental and put into a separate category. But have left out the many many customized Airstreams - such as the coffee carts, hot dog stands, mobile medical, etc.

What do you think? Any additional comments?

we don't know the purpose of your project...

it might help us to understand and comment....

as an owner, i'm more interested in the variety of

FLOORPLANS

a/s has developed and used over the years....

a detailed near complete listing of these, with ONE line drawing each, would be really nice.

and very helpful to ne1 considering a remodel or restoration...

for example

-the current front bed/rear door models and
-the rear door argosy models...
-the double door models

are truely unique while sharing badge/trim names like classic or safari or argosy...

cheers

I think that is a great idea!Having owned 5 Airstreams/Argosys, I have often wondered about various floorplans.I think something definitive with lay-outs would be good for people who are restoring or renovating their trailers. I know it would give me some ideas...

WOW, all floorplans ever! Now that would be a real challenge. I am having trouble enough getting all the product names straight.

The reason for me pulling the names together is for a project I am working on for Airstream. Yes, they have a great deal of archival information, but I thought it would be better to tap into the vast pool of knowledge here.

Given your collective responses, I think I made the right choice.

Thanks

Models

I was wondering if it would be easier to list the models by model years. For instance I believe AS used the general trim/style level name Sovreign for a less expensive product in the mid 80's after using the Sovreign and Sovreign of the Road model name of 31 footers for many years. Charlie E.

hey thank you for sharing the 'why' behind the original question...

i suspected as much...

and of course u DID make the right choice!!!!

so now i've got a bone 2 pick...

with a/s via you...

given THIS is THE AIRSTREAM KNOWLEDGE SHARING FORUMS...

why on god's silver planet,

isn't there a LINK on the airstream corp website ANYWHERE...

...to THESE FORUMS?

i know u r just the messenger...

but still it is completely inexcusable that the corp website doesn't at least acknowledge these forums,

and the forum members' contributions or existence...

and the owner, admins, and mods who keep the running gear balanced...

with a simple visible LINK...

don't you agree?

cheers
