yesterday someone on a thread suggested to subscribe to airstreamlist so I took a look..I did subscribe and did some reading of their threads...however, there are lots of ads to get around and then today I logged on to find I had been sent all the messages from today, a total of 32 emails...so I unsubscribed...too bad, it could be a good thing...

I guess that would be Hunter's list ... I lurk there from time to time.

You can avoid the emails by editing your profile ... just say no.

I find it less than easy to use - I checked off "no emails" because I was getting about 100 per day. However, now when I go into the sight - still have to get past some ads.

I get the emails in a daily digest, the whole days worth in one read. It's quick to handle, but on busy days I often just delete it without opening it up, or glance at the subject list at the top of the digest and delete it if I don't see anything that interests me. If something does sound interesting, then I can search for it, or just scroll down to find it.

I've occasionally joined yahoo lists before but rarely stick with them more than a month or two - they are just too frustrating to read!

I'm sure there's lots of good info there, but it's awkward to wade through and almost impossible to carry on a conversation. I think the ease of using this forum has spoiled me forever on the email-type lists. Unfortunately the VAC list falls into the same category...

Yes Hunter's list is a pain to peruse!
Yahoo groups (formerly E Groups) is far from user friendly. But it is real organizer friendly. i.e. anyone can have their own "forum". I avoid it at almost all times because of Yahoo not so much Hunter. Recieving it as individual e-mails takes alot of time and there is way too little if you own and maintain an Airstream IMHO.

I do follow it in a round about manner on Tom Pattersons archived versions of Hunter's "Original Airstream-list".

Only problem is that Mr.Patterson edits/censors that which he doesn't like. Still it is better than not following at all due to the Yahoo hoops that I refuse to hop thru.

Patterson also archives and heavily edits the old VAC-list and it's new successor the VAL-list.

The truth is that all the Airstream related lists are pretty heavily edited / censored / overseen somewhere along the pipeline.
Guess that says that some think there are plenty of "bad apples" in our barrels.

you are absolutely right...airstrealist is has so much advertising it is not nearly as easy as this forum. I thoroughly do enjoy being here, it is so much easier to search, learn, listen to all your suggestions, just a great place for airstreamers...

I also subscribe to that yahoo list, but find this forum to be a far superior format for discussing Airstream issues. But Hunter's list is far superior to newsgroups with all the spambots prowling them now.

I have the daily emails sent to the same account I use for newsgroup responses. This way, if I'm not in the mood, I can "delete all" and not sweat it.

I would have to say that most of the on line communities have moderation. If not then they would all get like the alt.rec newsgroup where you do something like post in caps or ask a question that was asked in the last 2 years you get flamed and called names.

We do our best to limit the editing of threads, and posts. The number of threads that have been removed totally is less than 100. Normally it is just a post here or there that needs to be deleted, or edited for content. This forum is in my opinion one of the better ones out there for allowing folks to discuss something without moderators having to get involved. It does happen on occasion, but not often. All we do is enforce the rules every member has agreed to abide by.

I too had joined the Yahoo list, but was not happy that my posts would have to be cleared by that list mistress before being seen by the public. So I un-suscribed. My words and thoughts are my own, as weird as they may be. I do not want someone else deciding if they are appropriate in the community. As long as I abide by the community policies there should be no reason to have them "approved", right?

I subscribe to several Yahoo Groups. The lower intensity ones, I just stop by and read on the website every now and then. The ones that get many emails per day, I received as individual messages. An Outlook Express "rule" moves them into a folder dedicated to that group, and I scan through the subjects for anything interesting. No wading through online ads for these.

I even have folders for all the forums I get email from, and have rules for those.

I get some the the AirstreamList into my Inbox and some goes to my junkmail folder. I try to check both if the topics are of interest and will post there from time to time. I did post once and was chastized heavily by Hunter because she told everyone to stop posting on a topic and I missed that warning. It kind of hurt my feelings.
