Airstream Warranty... Gaming the System

I have found it easier to pay for parts and do the repair myself. By the time I attach the trailer to the RV Service, have the problem diagnosed, leave the trailer or return with the trailer awaiting parts... or an appointment, etc., etc... and repeat.

The Airstream Warranty system expects many of these issues to be taken care of by the owner. Not the warranty.

I purchased a new 2016 with a Solar Package. The dealership had their check list. We left and the batteries would never charge. The Solar System was installed, but not wired into the electrical system.

A month later I was able to bring the trailer into the RV service center.

Yep. Your solar is not working.
Five hours of searching... it was not wired up nor could they find the errant wiring. I asked what was going on? They could not find the wiring. I recommended that they drill a hole, run the wire and attach the Solar Panel.

It worked.

Five hours of labor. Thirty minutes to remove excess speaker wire that was vibrating on the speaker cone. At 501-LSW Self Leveling part... for something.

My current 25 foot trailer had a snap switch that would not shut off the Dometic Refrigerator exterior cooling fan. Had to bring the trailer into the RV Service with an appointment. I emailed Airstream Jackson Center, and they were gracious to send me one, after I purchased one on Amazon from a vendor.

The the Dometic refrigerator FAN became a food grinder amplified into the trailer's interior. No response from Airstream... go to the RV Service Center.

I bought a replacement Fan from what I read on the Forum. I installed it. It works. It is quiet... and I hope it remains quiet.

A brake wire was not crimped and I found it removing a wheel. I fixed it myself. The brakes work.

Airstream Warranty understands that even though the parts do not work, are not properly installed or what ever else would be covered by warranty... there is a good chance that the 'little stuff' will be done from the owner's pocket.

Now it is the propane tank threaded rod that needs to be replaced, if it is not the correct diameter? Propane tank regulator, maybe.

If I had a Casino and operating a Trailer Craps Table... you are going to be paying out of pocket. This is 'gaming the system'. Or, as sometimes I find myself... asking too much for to have Jackson Center trust me that these inexpensive parts should be sent out, or am I... Gaming the System and stocking up on all these parts that fail within the first two years at... my expense? Not theirs.

Very well said. I agree. I have fixed a few issues on my own 2015 model myself. They were good about sending the parts though.

Ray, if you took your newest trailer to the Denver dealer, you could expect things not to be fixed, warranty claims to be denied and even possible damage to your trailer. We went there, had those problems, eventually took the trailer (twice) to Jackson Center for warranty work where they treated us right.

JC is somewhat confused on whether to send you the parts directly. The dealers don't like it because it means less is spent there. If you live far from a dealer, they may authorize repairs at a non-airstream facility. You live close to Denver, so they want you to go to their dealer there.
