Yes, 12' wide and 14' high to accomodate the tallest RVs.

Ken,
I have garage envy.

This sounds like a great project. Are you building this on your homes property or in another location? I'll follow your build updates.

Pouring the Slab...

Ain't it great when a plan comes together?

Three cement trucks arrived at dawn's early light.

Way to go! That will be great. It always looks so small when it's in the slab stage though.

Not to steal Ken's thunder but my CFO (dear wife ) has given the nod to start preliminary plans for a general purpose shop and storage building unfortunately it comes with the caveat that we have to get rid of at least two-three of the current storage facilities (I guess I could move them waaay up behind the other barn...can't see them from the house ) I agree with Ken's assesment of needing a 12x14 door. My game plan is a 40x60 with 16' wall heights, then on one end adding a second floor inside to double the storage capacity I will have to pull a second electric meter, so power for wayward and visiting Airstreams won't be a problem

Ken,
I married into 40 acres and a mule...well the mule is dead but you get the picture As long as we can keep it agricultural the taxes aren't too bad. But the golf communities and subdivisions are definitely cramping our style

If you plan the building right you could always add on, a nice benefit of steel structures. I also suspect that my 40x60 will cost less than your 40x40 based on location and less restictive building codes How do you plan on heating yours, or are you going to heat it?

Aaron

Wow!!

klevan, you have the garage of my dreams! If I may ask, do you have a ball-park figure for the finished building, not the land under it? Will you do other things with this building? oh I'm so jealous...........-tim

Just Make Your Best Guess and Multiple X 3

Greetings Tim,
I'll give you the itemized expenses and total when all is said and done.
Except for the building and slab, which was firm fixed price, everything is costing about three times as much as I figured.

For example, I got about four bids for plumbing, something I had budgeted $5k for. The bids ranged from a low of $7,500 to a high of $24,000. Go figure...

Since I'm inside the Albuquerque city limits, I had some outrageous design requirements that constrained how I could place the building on the lot and required me to incorporate some very expensive features.

Very Nice, Charlie...

So nice to get your vehicles out of the weather, I'll bet.

Thanks for the interest. More pictures coming. Walls and insulation going in today. Just in time. The leaves are turning abd hot air balloonists are gathering for the annual Balloon Fiesta. It must be Fall.
