Airstream Hand Gesture?

Wondering if there was a way to salute my fellow 'streamers driving on the road when I'm sans trailer?....perhaps a 'W' with 3 fingers.

I think thats a great idea. You would be able to recognize fellow streamers and whats wrong with paying a little homage to Wally, the one who started it all.

That, and the fact that people would probably think it meant "Winnebago"!

Don a pith helmet and wear it at a jaunty angle atop your head, tip the brim with your three fingered salute?

I already have a hand gesture I use for Airstreams that cut me off in traffic, it even involves one of the fingers mentioned above...

Since half the time other Airstreamers don't acknowledge a wave or flashing lights even when you're both towing trailers why bother.

Something I wonder is if people are sticking their hands outside the vehicle to wave or gesture. If not windshield glare can prevent seeing in.

In our experience, especially on highways with medians, the driver doesn't notice an Airstream coming the other way because there are a few other things to look at. Sometimes the passenger does see it if he or she isn't reading, sleeping, staring into space, looking somewhere else or putting CD's into the slot in the radio.

Waving may be going out of style anyway. In rural America people used to wave while driving at anyone on the road. Usually it was the one finger (index, not middle) wave while your hand is on the steering wheel. But that seems to be disappearing. It has gone the way of people saying hello to strangers on the street and counter checks. The trust and friendliness that I remember from decades ago is gone.

But I flash my lights when I see an Airstream is I see them in time. If we are not towing, they may think there's a speed trap up ahead or an accident, or we have an Airstream too.

For the past 22 years that I have owned an Airstream flashing the light and a wave has worked and most of the time acknowledged unless traffic/highway did not permit. Happy trails.
