Airstream?
The pic is of the next space shuttle crew going through a dress rehersal of the next mission prep. Is that an Airstream MoHo that they are riding to the pad? Pic is from www.space.com and is an official NASA photo.

They have used Airstreams since the Apollo missions or even before. It is all before my time!
Before the motor homes they used the travel trailers. I have seen images of the astronauts looking out the square back window in an Airstream TT after being picked up from splashdown.

NASA Airstream
What a terrific article!! I knew about the Airstream motorhome transport application at NASA but had no idea that Airstream also had built a mobile isolation unit.
Thanks for finding the article for us!!!

What's sort of interesting is that this MH looks to be pretty new. Or am I mistaken?
I think it has been determined that AS was going to or is producing the Aluminum exterior models again. Can anyone clarify?

It's not new. They've had this one for years. Given what they use it for, it wouldn't have a lot of wear and tear, would have a very low miles per year average, and spend its time indoors more often than not.
Interesting where the fridge is located. Looks like water on the ground beneath the fresh water tank filler..... I think this is definitely a pre-90's coach.

Its amazing how fresh even a twenty plus yr old AS coach can look. I get people coming up to ours all the time and asking if is new, and it is not anywhere near the outside shape of the NASA van.

.......It has been 35 years since Neil Armstrong stepped onto the surface of the Moon, just before 11 p.m. E.D.T. on July 20, 1969—an astounding feat to those of us who witnessed it on the flickering screens of black-and-white televisions........
Hmmmmm 1969, MoonBeam! gee I wonder where that name came from!!! and how about my signiture.
Lou you need to get a life beyond "axles".
For those who missed the post along time ago - we found that little space girl on our trip home from picking up MoonBeam alias GT6921 the picture is actually the trailer the night after we got home in Feb 04 - so the "moon" surface is good old Canadian snow - since patriotic syndrom has hit countries all over the world - I had to add the flag - and she would not be real unless you had earth in a blueish colour reflecting in the window.
1969 was the first Airstream custom built as the MQF - Mobile Quarantine Facility and was usually named after the "Recovery Ship" ie. Hornett III.
Why we even have the SS Moon Landing Plaque that will be mounted onto MoonBeams A-Frame when her restore is completely finished - as a tribute to "mankind" and our amazing accomplishments when against all odds.
As a side note the 1969 MQF was the first time I ever saw an Airstream - and since then I have always been intriqued by space.....

Actually, they have three of the motorhomes. There is one at Edwards as well.
