Advice from world travelers wanted

Next summer we plan to go to Sweden and probably Denmark (Legoland). Our kids will be 10 and 6. We have friends that live in Stocklholm so we will visit them for a couple of days and as mentioned above we will visit Legoland but other than that we need some ideas.

I'm guessing some of you Airstreamers have similar interests such as love the out-of-doors. Does anyone out there have any experiences or advice they would like to share? We won't be Airstreaming, of course, but are wondering about hotels, cabins, parks, attractions, transportation, helpful websites, etc.

Oh, how cool! Have a wonderful time!

My family and I lived in Sweden when I was about 5. I don't remember much, but I remember the Orrefors glass factory tour (they make exquisite crystal and art glass there) and going to see the Olympic ski jump at Oslo, Norway. I could not believe people went up that and jumped off of it for a reason!

Denmark

I been to Denmark on many occasions. Copenhagen is a definite must, What a great clean and safe city for touring. Everyone is fluent in English and they love to chat with Americans. If you have to opportunity to visit Copenhagen I recommend the following: Tivoli Gardens, Canal Tour, and the Royal Palace. If you are going to be commuting via train or car from Billund to Copenhagen a stop in Odense is a worthwhile visit. It is the birth home of Hans Christen Andersen.

Have a great trip to Scadanavia!!

If I went there....

Denmark....home of the last real square rig ships. This would be the last time, ever, to really be with real, active, square rig ships. What a memory for you and the kids. And then...there is everything else. I'd go in an instant.

I've been to Denmark twice, a couple of times in Copenhagen, as posted above - a great place to visit and very friendly people. Clean, safe, great food and sites to see.

I have only been in Sweden way up north - drove across Norway and went into Sweden "just because" it was there. The people I hear are very much like Norway (language, heritage, and customs) and if so you will find them warm and friendly. I spent 11 summers in Norway working and each one I made friends wherever I went, so I am sure Sweden will be fun for you.

The Nordic people are very trusting even today, and visitors are welcomed just like family. I have never been welcomed into someones home anywhere else in the world after such a short period (minutes) of getting to know them. You will have a great time.

i'm not a big guide book fan but pick up the Rick Steve's guide for the area you're going. he's a dork, but the info he gives is very good and mpstly accurate. he also gives you suggested itineraries based on how many days you spend in a particular city.

my wife and i went on our honeymoon two years ago to italy for three weeks. we had a bunch of guidebooks, but it was the rick steve's guides that we use most. we also ripped the pages out of the books we needed so we weren't lugging the book to dinner. we also saw a lot of people with his books. he's got some shows on pbs, look for them.

good luck!
