Advertisement Audience

I sincerely appreciate all this list does for all of us and the effort expended.

I get the fact that a guy has to take on some advertisement to keep things going, and I do my best to support the vendors here on site. I'm certainly not opposed to capitalism !

What I don't understand is why anyone would think that I, as an Airstreamer, would be the target audience for two angry looking, aggressive spartans who are prepared to enter into a "New Blood Battle" and that I would want to be greeted by them every morning for what seems to be the past couple of weeks ?

I didn't see the ad, but could it be because the word "Spartan" is used here on the site (as in Spartan travel trailers)? Sometimes ads are linked to key words used in posts, etc.

Hey, sounds like some of those people on Ebay trying to hawk practically any SOB-with-flair (and sometimes an SOB-without-flair) by adding "Airstream" to the label.

Nahh...... The use of the term "spartan" was mine. Good thought though.

The above banner comes up everyday and a different one on the left side bar down low also.

Oops, thought you meant that literally.

These are Google ads, placed here by them. We really don't have any direct control over what they put in them, as long as they aren't x-rated...

B4 -- I apologize but there is very little the site operators can do to influence ad content. Just like the weather -- stick around half a day and it will change. The subject of your ad is less objectionable than some. Our chat room was afflicted for a week or so with a rotating 'teen chat' banner with a young miss in lingerie. Spartans seems ... well ... I can't add anything to what's already been said. We're powerless unless the ad ratchets content up to the level of an adult site.

funny thing is, b4'...

i thought you were making reference to the daily, repeated, blatant solicitations for busingess IN THREADS here...

by a vendor or 2 that fit your description...

and we did have a thread that touched on this some....

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f138...ion-36758.html

but i see now u meant something else...

this is the usual response given, and well it isn't exactly true.

the decision to INCLUDE google/ads was voluntarily made at some point...

we've had 'seasons' of these g'banner ads...

there were the 'mental health' services and mormon ads (the most annoying ), auto ads, victoria secret ads (my favorite ), and others...

Chrysler Banner Ads

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f138...hat-35328.html

i just NEVER look at that horizontal section, which ultimately HURTS the actual a/s related vendors who PAY for ad space...

i find these 2 threads on karma and ad blocking especially funny...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f48/...ums-12718.html

New ads...

TOO BAD nothing has ever come of this, or has it ????

cheers

Actually, if you are seeing objectionable ads, it might be adware using your computer. I just had this happen recently, where a regular ad would pop up in a browser window (like the top right ad on CNN.com) and then quickly be replaced by scantily clad girls gyrating or something with sexual or other annoying references.

I ran AdAware and SpyBot (both free programs) and that took care of the problem.
