Sorry you had to cancel. Questions? What type of fish is steelhead? Are they related to salmon? They are frequently next to salmon on the counter at the store, but, have a different flavor. Just curious.

A steelhead is a rainbow trout that has gone to sea and come back significantly larger than his river based kin. In our case the great lakes serve the same purpose as the ocean.

Yep, an inch of snow here in Western PA last night, 13 degrees windchill. Our dogs love it, they will hate Florida this winter as our plans are to winter there. Too bad for them.

Thanks for the clarification, Gerard. I thought it might be some sort of trout, but, never really knew for sure. It is a nice flavored fish. I will usually buy a steelhead and a salmon filet, then cut them in portions and vac seal and freeze. I do enjoy my fish. One of the pleasures of my trip to Oregon...fresh seafood! Hope to repeat it next year!

Bud, enjoy your trip to Florida. Travel safe.

Smoked it is like candy. I can't make enough. It just seems to evaporate.

Lightly smoked steelhead is wonderful.
A local place here (Sunrise Meats- I dirt ride with the owners brother all the time) does an outstanding job.

Probably my favorite fish is fresh (like caught that morning) King salmon, very lightly broiled- just hot.

Salmon, leek and potato bisque with the leftovers.

Started the a whole salmon, cut into steaks. Two meals with them. Just seasoned and lightly seared under the broiler.

Every scrap of bones, etc went into the broth. A touch of heavy cream to get smooth texture and flavor mellowing effect. Picked over the remains for every bit of meat. Fresh bread from Pike's market as well.

The only thing left of the fish was a pile of very clean bones.

Family still remembers those three meals.

Nothing quite so good as fresh wild salmon.

The new home build is going slowly. Builders are busy and I'm trying to take my time and get a good one. I have found someone to clear the brush and dead trees off the lot.

And, yes. Camped in my daughter's family's driveway at this moment. Grandkids are off from school, so we'll head for a nearby State Park when they're up and fed.

Mimi, sorry the home build is slow. I know you will be much more comfortable once you are settled into a new well built home. Fortunately, you have the daughter's driveway to hunker down till then. I hope you are able to have water and electric connections.

We had a bit of snow early this morning tho not much remains. The mountains got a good amount, and that is good for the ski resorts.

Thanks for the thought, but I'm only camped in my daughter's driveway for this week--grandkids are off from school and I'm hanging out with them until their parents get off work for the holiday. Thanks to some previous owner of the house, there are full hookups here.

I moved into what had been our second home, so I do have a permanent residence for now. I have a big airplane hangar next to the house, so I have room to sort through stuff and get organized before the next move. While I'd like for the new house build to be progressing faster, I don't want to rush and then end up with regrets.
