I'm not a cat person, but have mourned the passing of many of them. All individuals, all sorely missed. I grew up in a household well loaded with cats. Sorry for your loss.

Condolences for the loss of your cat. Cats are special personalities, and they burrow deeply into our hearts as we live with them.

Sorry for your loss of Max. Our last cat Sally loved hanging out in our old 25' AS when it was parked in the driveway. She was a feral rescue but warmed right up to some of us. With others she was still a wild child!

Dealing with "petty tyrants" like the DMV person strengthens us. Well done to find a decent route around this temporary obstruction in your path!

Have fun on the new adventure . . .

Peter

Evelyn, sorry to hear about Max. We lost our 15+ cat two weeks ago. Miss her terribly. Know your sorrow. She traveled thousands of miles with us and loved to look out the trailer windows at a campground. We love animals and morn the loss of one. She gave us many years of fun and had a wonderful life, for which we are thankful.

In my experience, the only way to reduce the pain is to rescue another animal after a reasonable time. I have two furry babies, both rescue dogs, greedily getting lap time right now. As usual, I don't know who rescued who. 😀😀

Thank you all for your comments. Max was a one person cat...any time the little dogs were not in my lap, Max was...he was such a lovable cat....to me...for most others, he let his contempt be known, in no uncertain terms. Max was the type of cat that makes some folks dislike them, but, for me....he was a lover bug. If he were here, he would be in my lap, rolling around, loving on me, paws around my neck, grooming me....

We all know that we will outlive our pets and when they die, it tears at our hearts, but, the unconditional love they give us....it is worth it! Sleep well, Max.

Rm, good suggestion, and all of our pets do come from the dumb friends league. My dtr, Deb, lives with me...she has a big Mainecoon cat...about 3 times the size of Max. He shares his loving with me, equally. As matter of fact, this morning, he seems to sense my sadness and "gave me special attention". It helped ease my heartache for a bit.
We have 2 little dogs...each, so, I will have ample furry kids to soothe my heart.

Adventures OUTSIDE COMFORT ZONE!

The animals really seem to know when we are feeling down. They sense it, and try to help. Our dogs all do that when needed.

Cats do choose "their people". It's the way of the cats.

Thanks ladies. Yes, I am aware of the poem, and it is a comfort.

This morning, Mikki was running around my bedroom...looking under the bed, closet, etc. I'm sure, looking for Max. They used to play this "catch-me-if-you-can" game. Mikki stood on end of bed, watching for Max, (who would wait for her), then race to the door and jump over pet gate. Once free, Max would sneak back into bedroom, hide, and they would repeat the game, till I completed my morning routine. And took them all downstairs.
Mikki seems confused, and comes to me, looking around, as if to ask...where is kitty?
Heartbreaking.

I understand all too well.

Lily looked for Doug for months after his death.
