Wow Lynn thats cold....hope you guys warm up as much as were suposed to.
Suns out and fog is gone, all the frost is dancing in the air. First time this year we've seen a good Hoar Frost. We should get to 36 that would be a 45 degree swing.

I was just reading about winter camping in the new Winter Airstream Life. It sounds just great, provided a little planning and preparation is done. It's giving me the itch to hit the road (again).

It did reach the mid-20s here yesterday morning - after getting into the 70's on Friday. 'Tis the season.

Navajo lake never freezes over, it does get some ice around the edges in places.
The San Juan river has a year around temp of about 40 degrees when it exits the lake so it doesn't freeze over either. There will be some ice along the shallows and edges though.

The only iceing problem I've had while fishing the river is in the guides of the fly rod but a quick swish in the warmer water will clear them quickly.

Hay Don, there is some open water coming out of Smith Res...into Trinchera Creek...but when you get ice built up in the guides can't dip your rod in the water or it's all over...

There is some great fishing on the San Jaun during the winter, I've caught some of my biggest fish during late fall and winter the crowds are gone and you have plenty of elbow room.

I haven't been to Smith or Trinchera yet, But I did call the State Park people at Trinidad res a couple of weeks ago about walleye fishing in the fall, then the weather to winter really fast, as you know.

Absence of Heat...

We broke a record yesterday morning for the least warm Dec. 29th ever...it was 33 degrees below 0. Last time it was that temp was 1948. Today will warm up considerably, it was only 27 below 0...high temp should get to 20 above...If were tough enough this year we will again get out to the land and have a pot of Navy Beans and Ham with Corn Bread for New years Day...
This is a Pict of last years fare...but the temps were better and there was no wind. It's a tradition and we've only missed a few years due to weather....we'll see....Happy New Year to all...

Oh, man, I feel for you! Brrrrrrr! We were actually very unusual this morning: It was 13 degrees, and a guy from the resort said that they were expecting 34 as a high. Almost balmy!

That is cold enough,
Our low wasn't quite that bad, it was -14 here at 8:00am.

Your fire and picture are great.

We spent last week in Southern NM and TX for Christmas and enjoyed some of the 50's and 60's and 70's, we got back between snow storms Wednesday night and it was quite a change.

Happy New Year
