Interstate is packed and ready to go, as are Lily and I.

She watches my in-and-outs closely, thumping her tail each time I return to the house...is it time to go, yet?

My son and I got a latch replaced on one of the galley cabinets yesterday, the screws were in too tight for me, but spare parts were already on hand in the tool bag....purchased and stashed by Doug at some point, as we have replaced a number of these over the years.

Sunday dinners at Grandma's little house have been moved to once a month, the remainder will be at my son's up the street. Holiday dinners, too. All the advantages of a visit and a shared meal, in a house twice the size. They also have a dishwasher.

The larger expanse of their home better absorbs and accommodates the activity level of 3 busy, half-grown young-uns......here, rather like being confined in a small space with three Great Danes....plus Lily, getting in on the fun. It's time.

We're planning an overnight here late fall, where they will help Grandma get wood in, and with the mountains of leaves that will by then need to be gathered up and hauled to the street.....and, we will try out the new toasting forks on hot dogs and marshmallows in the chiminea on the patio.

They have few leaves in their new-ish subdivision, so piles to rake up and play in are a treat they relish and look forward to every year. A childhood rite of passage, although when I was a child you could rake them to the street and burn them. Neighbors would all be out together, visiting, raking and burning.

One of the things I enjoyed about doing after-hours on call duties in the fall, were visits to small towns, and the smell of burning leaves. Loved it.

Need to fill the fresh water tank, and make my final visit to the dentist....don't ask ...and, we're off.

Have a good week.

Maggie,

Wow. You hardly had time to unpack before you're packing again? Guess you have places to go and people to see. Good travels, good lady.

I do have people to see, that is true. The places to go are just on the way.

There is a benefit to not having to even turn the frig off, just plug in at home for a few days. Do up the laundry and get it back in, re-stock a bit, and you're ready to go.

In Shawnee National Forest in very southern Illinois last night. Beautiful and cool here.

Nice campground, with nice showers. We had a very long day yesterday...or, so it seemed, for I who is unaccustomed to doing all the driving ....was good to get parked, fix a little supper and get the Sunday papers read. Lily got a good run, too, in an empty area of this campground.

As "concessionaires" have been given so many of the federal campgrounds, I notice that they seem to take their share out of the middle. 50% off with the Golden Age Passport is only 25% at these sites. A bit annoying. There's a benefit somewhere, hopefully, other than fewer federal employees, but I can't see it. Found one of these in RMNP last year, I believe, that wanted $10 from campers to dump.

I love getting out of the flatland of Central Illinois and into the rolling, grassy, forrested hills of southern Illinois. So beautiful.

Are going to go thru a bit of Kentucky and directly into Tennessee today. Pondering stopping at the archives in Nashville to see what I can find on my Eastern TN ancestors......they were there before they built the flatboats in 1806 that took them to Mississippi.

I will likely take some pictures, but with the IPad they still post upside down here, don't they?

We are doing well. Setting out on the longest trip, in distance and in days, since Doug's death. I like to think he will spend some time with us.

Propane is on red.....first order of business this am.

Maggie, it is a hassle, but you could copy pics to a different album and flip them over then post...?

It would be easier for us than standing on our heads to see what you see...

It is that how I would do it???

I could also try the "take picture" option, for posting, which I have never done. (Still upside down)

It really is like having y'all along with me....you just can't see.

Shawnee National Forest

Still upside down, this one saved upside down into a "to post folder".

If you have suggestions for what and how, I will try it.

I only have the IPad with me, no camera.
