Awww, thank you.

RosesRUs, was Doug & I.

He sent me roses after our first three dates, then they were the standard for anniversaries, birthdays, and just because. Usually red, sometimes yellow. Such a romantic.

He gave me a beautiful rose print years ago, framed and on a wall in our bedroom....which has rose print wallpaper.

I have saved and dried all the petals from all the roses. When I am gone and cremated, the petals and my ashes will be spread on his grave. If I had gone first, my urn would have been buried with him, in the crook of his arm. Always the plan.

Finishing my morning coffee from one of the new rose mugs....I have 3. All roses, all the time, that's me for now.

Will have to find something rosey for the Interstate.

He will like the rose bush on his gravesite.

Going to go dump the tanks this am. Wish me luck.

Tanks are dumped, and without incident.

Took me about 20 minutes, having trouble getting things open and closed, on and off. Had to nearly lay on the ground, with a flashlight, to get the hose connected. Afraid to trust how it felt, for fear there would be the dreaded.......spillage.

For those of you unfamiliar with an 06 Interstate, the location of the sewer hookup is underneath the vehicle. You cannot see it standing or bending over, you have to get on the ground and look beneath.

I understand now why Doug cursed this task, and why he didn't put on his clean clothes until after the chore was done. I'm going to get a pair of those knee pads that Terry (overlander63) recommended.

I took Lily with me, and she, predictably, hopped up in the passenger seat....alternating looking out the front window and looking at me with this quizzical expression..."What are we doing, and where is Grandpa?"

She looks for him. Whenever we return home from anywhere, she cruises the house and into the back bedroom.....his room. She only does this when we have been gone from the house together...... "Has he come back?" I tell her "Grandpa is all gone, Lily", but she doesn't get it.

Have my weekend laundry done and will have the little house clean and tidy before I leave tomorrow.

Am looking forward to seeing his stone and being back there for a few days.

I'm sure he'll be around. I hope he likes his headstone.

Congratulations on a challenging task... And yes, spillage almost always comes with adjective "Dreaded" when discussed on RV forums...

An alternative to the foam knee pads and elastic Velcro straps is a gardener's pad of foam, sold at large hardware or gardening stores, that is about 3/4" thick and 12" by 24".. Relatively easy to put it down and kneel on it, and then stash it in the area with hoses when done... We actually use a single knee pad for hooking up trailer, and then kneeling pad for working around tank drains...

Hope your weekend is a trouble-free and peaceful one!

John

That's a good idea. Thank you, John.

I'll have to look around a bit. Definitely need something, and a pad could be sat on as well as kneeled on. My knees are not the best, and don't care for any kind of twisting or torquing.

Miss Lily and I had an uneventful drive yesterday, to Big River State Forest north of Oquawka, Il.

Water fill and showers, but no electricity. Heavily wooded, so lots of shade, and temps are perfect for dry camping. Incredibly, we are one of two campers in this entire campground. Delabar State Park is just south of us, with electricity, which must be where everyone is this holiday weekend.

Brewing the first pot of coffee in here since.......Doug always did this, and I drank my instant Trader Joe's packets on the way home. Requires a quick boil of water, only, and makes a delicious cup of coffee.

Yesterday felt very odd and very sad in here, but we just got thru it, and it is better this morning. Some crocheting and reading and it was time for bed.

A new normal.

All is well. On to the cemetery this morning.

Thank you, Pagey.

At the Grace Hill cemetery, where there was a very large expanse of level, mowed grass waiting for me, just a few seconds from Doug's gravesite. We're going to stay right here til late tomorrow afternoon.

It's not creepy, it's family. Doug's Dad is here, his paternal grandparents, and others, including many Civil War Veterans. No unfriendly spirits.

The stone is in. Looks very nice, as will the rosebush once it is planted on the grave side.

Son is bringing a shovel and will be here with his oldest later this afternoon, Doug's Mom and others tomorrow.

(4G, in the cemetery)

All well.

Maggie, It's lovely to hear that you're on your first solo trip. Well, you know what I mean, I think.

There was a time, not long ago, when you couldn't have paid me enough to spend the night in a cemetery. Funny how things have changed.

I'm not the least bit afraid......Doug is right here.

Rose bush is in and lovely.

A beautiful, peaceful spot. It is very comforting to be here.

On a hill, in a cemetery, in rural Iowa.

Maggie, writing your feelings, hearing yourself saying these words is important and good self help therapy. The conversation will change with time. I'm about 18 months further along than you but still having those emotions and conversations. The emotional response is not as intense. Thankfully. We were just as you described you and Doug were, for 43 years.

Planning and taking a trip is good. If you ever get far enough away from the grands and find yourself in the Florida panhandle, we can have a cup of coffee. Look forward to meeting you. Safe travels.

Thank you, Peter. Sorry for your loss.

Today is much better than yesterday. I like being here.

A process, not an event.
