A/S Surgery needed

I never thought I'd see the day where someone has built an addition onto an Airstream. Now they want to sell the trailer but they first need to "surgically" remove the addition from the Airstream.

Someone must really want it, too. It is up to almost $100 on the auction. Of course, one of those Corning windows will recoup that money with no problem.

I noticed the bidding frenzy too. I think any Airstream auction that has a starting bid of a penny with no reserve is sure to generate much curiosity.

Man! This will be fun to watch...it actually looks to be in pretty good shape, with the exception of two comments:

• "We don't know if this trailer has a door." Without a door, it's pretty much useless as a travel trailer...doors without trailers are pretty hard to come by.
• "An addition is built onto it, w(h)ich will be removed shortly." Personally, I would love to know how this addition is attached...or is it? If the PO thought things out and just built up to it and didn't attach anything to the skin, that's one thing...if they screwed into the trailer with flashing, walls, etc. that's a whole different animal!!! The curb side could be destroyed ~ I wonder if more pics will be posted after the building part is removed?
• I would also be a bit concerned that it appears the tongue is practically laying on the ground...that looks like a bigger issue than just flat tires.

This is on the Eastern Shore - Chesapeake Bay side. It is probably less than 2 hours from Va. Beach, but there's the toll crossing the Bay Bridge Tunnel $12 one way I believe.

Chesapeake Bay is brackish - not as salty as the Atlantic, but definitely not fresh water, and as this is rather far inland it will be fresher water. I'm amazed it looks as shiney as it does for the age of the unit. It must have been acid washed or something recently.

Tis a curiosity to be sure.

Think I'll ask if the addition is just snuggled up (and caulked like there's no tomorrow) or if it's nailed on.

Yeah, that tounge is right on the ground. It could be on a bit of an incline, so the backend might be higher, and you just can't tell from the camera angle. Still, I'd be concerned about how long it has sat there like that. It will be interesting to hear how the addition comes off. Hey, nothing a lot of rivets and a few patches couldn't fix, right? Especially if someone got it for $100!

edit: It looks like the door is clearly no longer attached (from the view on the kitchen and the hinge side of the door frame). I wonder if it might be under the addition or something? Otherwise that's going to be a hard piece to find!

Hmm.... I'm thinking that anyone who would go to the trouble to specially build an Airstream shaped shed would be sure that the trailer is not damaged. This old trailer looks like a diamond in the rough to me....
