Why Yahoo Messenger?

Greetings aircooled,
I am not wanting to cause an argument, but I was just curious why you would suggest Yahoo Messenger?
If you want computer based texting, why not just continue with an Airstream forums thread?
If you want computer based texting plus voice, how about Echolink?
If you want computer based voice plus video, how about Skype?

You are a General, but I am only a Tech so I am interested in technologies that give me more range.

Airstream25....I like the ability to also be able to have some people be able to use their phone to respond to messages...I know I know...not very 'ham like'
I havent yet tried echolink....And with Yahoo,(or any messanger) Business ideas or any other moneymaking oppurtunities can be discussed..

And Mike, Yes, i do CW...usually on 40,20, and 30...

Whow AIRCOOLED
I didnt think anyone did that any more seein its not a requirement of licensing. I think I may qualify for 1/4 Century Wireless this year. I still dont have a defineative answer. ARE THERE ANY AIRSTEAM NETS? It appears there maybe WBCCI nets but I'd just bet I would not be welcome seein that Im not a member of WBCCI.

Hello All,
I'm up for whatever. But it may take me some time to figure out how to install and use Yahoo Messenger. I am out of the HF business until spring. Had an 80 meter one wave horiz. loop, but Ice brought it down. I like the idea of a special thread here, but it would be nice to be able to rag chew as well.

Ecolink, mentioned earlier, might not be a bad idea, that way, regardless of class, all could participate.

Consider Echolink

The Echolink conference servers are hugely under utilized. For example,
NV-GATE, a major western server located in Las Vegas, NV has capacity for 100 and at this moment has only one user. Even more extreme is ROUNDTBL with capacity for 1000 and zero users currently.

It seems to me that anyone wanting to ragchew could set up a time on one of these conference servers and all of us Airstreamer hams could talk or text as much as we want via our computers or if you live within range of an Echolink enabled repeater, you can join in with voice via your radio.
