Yes, it's been a good trip, but so very different than my first two winter trips sans sweet hubby....but, it's been one of those years.

Travel days wear Lily out...we get stopped, she gets a walk, and a run if at all possible....an empty campground loop, a field, whatever, turn her loose and let her rip a bit.

Then, she eats, snuggles and plays with me a bit and crashes...14-16 hours later, she is ready to go outside and go potty again. What a bladder.

Earlier, she came and sat by me on the bed, giving me the look...ears up, asking for something...I looked and she was out of water, so I refilled her bowl, then she laid down and went to sleep.

Happy to know water is there when she needs it, that's all she wanted.

Such a smart dog, such an excellent communicator she is.

I am watching Netflix for the third night in a row...trying to use up data I am going to take home with me, where I have wifi.

I've paid for it, going to use as much of it as I can.

Maggie

It was 18 when we got up this morning, and wasn't supposed to be that cold overnight, but we were fine.

Have just fueled up and are headed out of TN, thru KY and into a state park in Indiana for tonight, where we should have the last of weather cold enough to prevent parking the Interstate in the driveway for awhile...unheated.

Warming up at home beginning tomorrow, and staying that way...for Central Illinois this time of year...so the plan is to get on the major highways tomorrow and be home later in the day.

Son and his will be over for lunch on Saturday, and we will both be delighted to see them.

Onward and northward...

Good morning Maggie. Yes, I've noticed that you ladies , east and west, are getting the winter that usually comes to Denver region. Our snowiest months are usually February, March, and April. So far, not this year. The mountains just west of me have received an over abundance of snow....we, on the front range are dry.

No snow in Feb, a dusting in March. Heavy winds and dry are contributing to wildfire conditions with several recently in areas, not too far from here, although not serious, thus far. We usually see temps of 20's-40's with lots of snow. This year...40's to 80 so far. We may still see some, but, not likely. It makes me concerned for a hot, dry summer and wildfires.

I may need to take summer trip planning.....totally dependent on where wildfires are not!
I still hope to get to Grand Tetons, but, only if no wildfires in the area.

Maggie, snuggle in, stay warm and dry, have a safe trip home tomorrow. Evelyn.

Sounds like quite an adventure!

We're on our first camping trip of the season, back at Fort Stevens State Park. Temps in the upper 30's to low 50's depending on day. Torrential rain Tuesday and Wednesday morning, though we had a decent gray-skies afternoon yesterday. Sunny skies today, rain begins again tomorrow at 11AM and continues through Saturday 11AM. Looks like that one will be a frog strangler, hoping we picked a good campsite. Sunny again Sunday, which is when we'll head home of course.

All the work I did on Rocinante to add support for Internet connectivity via cellular is working like a dream. Last time we were here, we had almost no cell phone signal. With the new gear I installed, we are doing great, with a terrific cell signal and excellent connections.

Yes, it's been an odd weather year, Evelyn.

I believe this past week was the first snow in Chicago this winter, or since December, something like that.

The mild winter made it possible for me to be in NY helping with the move, tho, so Doug would say it was "kismet"

SIL has a backache, he tells me....from shoveling snow for the first time.

We are in our state park for the night, about a 5 hour day...the only ones here, so the first thing Lily and I did was take an off leash bike ride.

If I wanted to push it, we would be home tonight...but, I don't.

I will do a little pulling together of things to make tomorrow easier, and get a hot shower at their open bathhouse.

Sun is shining here, but only about 40 degrees.

Glad you are enjoying Fort Stevens, Bill...such a lovely place.

I envy you the self-done, improved connectivity. Tho Verizon is pretty darned reliable, I really hate when signal is weak and I have no phone and no internet.

I would have never predicted how dependent I have become on my electronics.

I have been watching Ken Burns "The West", and it is excellent, as his series are in my experience.

Have finished thru the Gold Rush, and next the Civil War....I know I have forgotten a lot of what I learned in school, but feel certain he has included facts not taught in any class I ever took.

Hello, Rocinante.

Enjoyed meeting you two last September. Say Hi to Ft. Stevens for me. Someday, I'm going to go back in my own rig.

Also, could you post or PM me the "for dummies" version of your connectivity upgrades. I'd like to do some improving for my Safari, but I lack the tech skills to know what to choose or how to install.

Maggie, my suggestion for your D and SIL: snowblower. In a region where heavy snows occur.....a great health need! Of course, this year, I had my snowblower repaired.....no snow since! Go figure!

Hey, Mimi, PM sent, thanks for asking.

Yes, we are ridiculously dependent upon our electronics, even though we're allegedly camping, haha.

Rocinante,

Would appreciate the PM also. I have upgraded my system for wi-fi but want to improve it. I mostly boondocks, so it is important.

Yes...home.

It rained on us during the night, and then most of the day, but had stopped before we got to the house, so I am mostly unloaded....and, have a fire going.

I started a book last night...The Gates of Evangeline

https://www.amazon.com/Gates-Evangel...42SZXQEQHWHX9C

It is excellent, and I had to make myself put it down to sleep...knowing I had a long drive today.

The central character is a young woman who has just lost a child, and some of the characterizations of grief are so incredibly accurate.

I found myself wanting to copy and paste pieces, to save with my multitudes of other quotes, and discovered that the "share" function on my Nook does this, in your choice of four colors

This particular sentence resonated with me, prefaced by the character handling and putting away her child's toys...her child who had died, and had last touched them himself.

I remember vividly the early months after Doug died, feeling this exact thing...whether it was touching something that had been his, doing a task he had always done or we had done together...oh, honey , I would say.

I still say it, at those same times, it just comes out of me.

Still saying goodbye, 3 years later.

Sweet Gail.

It was cold in here when we got home, as I leave the furnace set at 55 when we're gone. Brrrrrr.

The fire warmed the house right up, as my wood is so dry it burns very hot.

Nice...I like my woodstove.
