I was looking for an appropriate emoticon for you and saw that with your name on it. Sometimes during an update they add new ones, it's kind of nice.

I read recently that using emoticons is quite passe but I've only just started using them and I like them. So much is lost (tone of voice and emotion) in writing here but you can't confuse a smile.

I am so used to using emoticons here that I find it hard to properly express myself in emails without them.

Thanks.

Going to walk Lily over to my sons after a bit.

He and my daughter both called this morning to check on their Mama, who was in such a funk that she drove home.

One of the things about grief, I have found, is that when you are really in it you tend to grieve and mourn everything important that you've ever lost....real, imagined, tangible or not, people, places, things, love, betrayal, trust...it all hurts.

Once one lurches to the surface, they all want to get into the act, compounding what is present to include what is past, and sometimes overwhelming and overtaking your emotional reserves. Sigh.

Much better today. I needed to be home, and knew that.

Have mixed a loaf of bread to bake tomorrow...

Home is where the heart lives....and it was obviously pulling you back home. GOOD! You listened. This gives you the opportunity to regenerate, rebuild your reserves.....before you head out again. Bless you and Lily.

The three who live close, on a bike ride to downtown Normal with their parents.

They will be here to spend the night on Saturday.

Bread....baked.

Going to have Miss Alice from Iowa City for the weekend, and it will be a surprise for the ones here, who haven't seen her since Christmas.

Cousin time....and, Grandma time.

I ordered some of these to see how they will look in my cargo door window.

For those of you who have been in my Interstate, I have three of these in there, on the two rear windows, and in the kitchen window...

http://www.flatflowers.com/index.php?&lang=en

They went up 7-8 years ago, and are still as beautiful and the colors as vibrant as the day I put them up.

I thought the viney ones on the cargo door might go well...we'll see.

Inexpensive, so if they don't work in the Interstate I will find another window they like.

Doug would say it's too girly out there already, but then...

The decor needs to comfort and nurture me, and pretty floral things do that.

Maggie,

That's a great link. I have seen them before but didn't get the full picture of how they turn out. Very nice.

I also love flowers in the trailer.

Maybe post a picture after you put the vines up.

I love the flowers! Someone in the forum decorated their AS with hippie flowers from hippiemototrsusa.com & although I really like the look I couldn't justify the price. Sweet hubby is ok with flowers on the windows so think I will order a few.

Just left Yellowstone today & it was great! Hope we can go back again.

Hugs to you & Lily!

Jane

The flat flowers add a nice, dignified, and pulled together pop of color in the neutrality of the interior color scheme, and they are inexpensive....like a vase of fresh flowers on your dining room table at home. I love them.

Have a safe rest of trip, Jane, and hugs to you both.

It has been storming here this morning.

I had to move with my coffee, from my favorite chair to the couch, so that Lily had a place to be while the worst of it was raging...scrunched between me and the back of the sofa seemed to be good for her, and there I didn't have to worry she would knock my coffee all over me.

These are pretty cool, Jane, tho neither could I justify the price nor muster any interest in putting these all over the outside of my beautiful Interstate.

There is a wide variety of inexpensive window clings out there, online and a ton of them at Hobby Lobby, as I recall.

They could go on glass or interior walls...

Found this picture, googling hippie flowers.....

Sorry Maggie - I'm a bit late to your recent posts and I don't mean to bring up the grief thing but I do have thoughts about it. We all know the old saying about better to have loved and lost than not have loved at all. I think couples all go in knowing the risk of being separated at some point in life but we choose to be brave about it and get on with experiencing life together. I know it's a gut punch sometimes but maybe that grief is a reminder of Doug, from Doug that says "Hey, do you miss me?" And you have to grin through the tears and say "Darn right I do."

A few days ago I posted on Facebook something written by a man who passed away this past week but spent a lifetime not forgetting:

"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of beauty is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, but indifference between life and death."

- Elie Wiesel

You got this Maggie. And I hope you got the chance to enjoy the grandkids.

Enjoy the time with the little ones this week, Maggie. They grow up too fast. As usual, your fresh baked bread looks yummy!

Hi there, and thanks....you're exactly right, as was Elie Wiesel.

Grief is the price we pay for having loved, someone said....if you let yourself love someone deeply, the risk of wrenching pain at their loss goes hand in hand with it. Sigh.

A couple of weeks ago, I was watching a Downton Abbey rerun, where Carson and Mrs. Bates were married...."I now pronounce you husband and wife" choked me up, and brought me to tears, reminding me of our civil ceremony in front of a beloved juvenile judge we had worked with for many years.

I liked being "Doug's wife", one half of our "matched pair", and talked with him about that very thing at that very moment.

I was sure he was there, and listening, perhaps giving me a hug...because that's what he would have done in life.

I've suspected that teary moment, and the one in the grocery store last week, were prompted by his spirit, hovering close, because I don't have those teary moments often these days.

Looking back, I seemed to have been traveling to that low spot I experienced in Kentucky for awhile. A cumulative effect.

Maybe he wonders if I miss him, tho I certainly tell him that every single day...maybe he just needed to see me feel it.

It's better, at home, and I'm having a very social week, for me...I needed to spend time with friends, and I'm going to have four grands here this weekend, which will fill me up.

Their time will be spread between my house and my son's, due to planned activities there that they will include Alice in....the end result being constant contact, one place or the other, for this group....they will love it, and I will love it.

Moderate and dry temps are in store for the weekend, so we'll do a fire in the fire pit, roast hot dogs and marshmallows, eat on the patio and they can play in the back yard.

And, it will be good.
