I like to have 3-4 ounces of wine most evenings....part of my transition to the end of the day. I like it.

I have nearly finished the bottle I opened and en-Platypus'd last week....will open my next with the wine opener of her Mother's that Mimi sent me, which was waiting here at Edisto when I arrived.

I am not aware of any seasonal or other restrictions on pets at Edisto, but for the usual leash requirement....tho that is bent for brief periods in alone areas of the beach by many of us. Let them run and romp and play in the water a bit, then leash them back up and go back to your campsite.

A lot of people seem to leave their dogs loose at their site, tho not me, as Lily would be in the road, confronting every dog that walked by.

I suspect the weekends will be very busy with children and families, as it is getting warmer, but early morning is nearly empty, regardless, and there are always a few of us out letting our dogs do what dogs love to do.

I love this place.

Good morning Maggie,
I'll bet you could crochet a little something for Lily's treats...like a little cross body bag!

I envy you for your time on that lovely beach. It does sound heavenly. I hope to have some nice experiences on Oregon beaches, although we are not on the beach, as you are. I so look forward to this trip.....and to meeting you and Lily. Evelyn.

Hi Evelyn,

This is, indeed a beautiful place.

I can crochet baskets, bowls, and rugs, so could surely make a bag....if I really wanted a bag... to wear around my waist.

Oregon will be great fun, Evelyn, and we will be on the coast if not on the beach.

Can probably find some beaches out there to walk, if we want....Gail will know, and she will be our guide.

Beaches on the west coast are equally beautiful, just different.

Maggie,
I use only cross body bags, (comfortable and secure). I change to various sizes, based on need. Mine are hand painted, not by me, unusual and interesting. Fun to wear.

Hi all... Fort Stevens is in a forest and the beach is right there...you could walk to it from the campground or drive .. depends on how far you like to walk... the beach is beautiful and goes on and on...however, it's not "warm" up here... might be in September??? never know... if you look at the map, you'll see it's the most northern tip of Oregon... great place.. when I was in Astoria, I'd go there often... ok, everybody keep having fun!!! hug and love from here...

Blackie was surrendered to the pound by previous owners, and never knew that lost and hungry feeling. The "come" command works when we're in the yard, but is useless when she's excited about seeing something new.

Bud, I'd appreciate your advice, if you're reading this.

Hi Mimi

I've sent you a PM with some exercises that work. Key is patience - then the mantra from a world famous trainer - EXERCISE, Discipline, Affection. At this point the key is exercise. My two get a four mile walk in the AM - rest - lots of supervised play in the PM and training, every day.

Bud

Thanks, Bud. I appreciate your help.
Need to improve on the exercise issue, both for Blackie's sake and for mine.

When not traveling try a treadmill. They can be found on E-Bay or Craigslist real cheap especially this time of year as the "New Year's Resolution" is done with. I train almost all dogs I work with to run on treadmills or walk and both mine do. About 45 minutes on one at about 2.5 miles per hour is worth about 5-6 miles walking as they have to use their body and mind to use a treadmill.

On the road we walk twice per day, play and train - try for every day.

Bud

Lily and I were up early this morning, had a good walk on the beach and were back for the last cup of coffee (me) by 7:30 am.... then another trek into what amounts to "town" here to pick up T's for the grands.

Nice to be able to walk or bike here to anything one must have.

In spite of hefty winds, going to head to the beach one more time and wear my girl out thoroughly.

Nothing much to report, just checking in....hanging out at Edisto is all I need right now.

I know that, ladies.....y'all are so sweet.

Lily is now preferring her carrots peeled..

There is something on the surface of this last bag that she doesn't like, and she leaves them unless I peel them.

Booger dog.

Try cutting up the baby carrots. If Lily is that picky you might want to have her DNA tested she can't be Labrador. All Labs I have known will eat anything from the best steak to dirt.

Booger Dogs are the best

I thought whole carrots would be less expensive, also give her the "gnaw" element that she loves....but there is something on the surface of this particular bag of carrots that she doesn't like, what can I say?

Once I peel them, she eats them up.

Lily loves carrot, cucumber and apple, but absolutely rejects green pepper. She is generally omnivorous, but apparently also has some definite "tastes".

She is most definitely black lab, with her webbed feet and vets in Louisiana and at home saying so...with certainty.

I have no need to know what she is crossed with, tho suspect Chow.

Best for me to just be able to honestly say she is "a lab mix".

The strong winds we have had the last couple of days finally subsided in the night, so looking forward to some respite from that and a more pleasant outdoor experience.

Everything is now covered with a fine layer of sand , and it has been impossible to keep things on my little patio in place.

But....it's Edisto Beach.

Maggie

I was joking on the Lab thing. Ours eat almost anything, but at times I'll put something in my hand and they both sniff and back off. Then when I eat it, they sit in front and beg.

Lab mix works for many of the dogs we get into rescue.

Enjoy

I thought the winds had died down, but it was only momentary.

In Ireland, they would call these "gale force winds". The last time we were there, we were in a snowstorm with just such winds.

We have had a long beach walk, regardless, and I am starting to accumulate a nice pile of shells suitable for candles.

The large, beautiful, scallop shells I found so many of last year are mostly eluding me thus far, but other, deep, pretties are finding their way to me.

Today is March 3rd, and two years ago at this time we were working our way in the Interstate toward St. Marys, GA.

It was a dark and stormy night....and we awoke to small lagoons around us in the campground.

The wind..again..seems to have died down, which will be a relief....if it lasts.

I try not to complain about the weather, but.....sometimes it is tiresome in its persistence of unwanted effects.

Lily is so exhausted from walking and beach runs that, by 6pm or so, she is asking for her last potty break and then crashed til morning as soon as I have the bed out....where I like to recline to read and/or watch tv of an evening. A pooped pup is a good thing.

In between walks, I am working on prayer shawls to turn into the Hospice center when I get home....this yarn is called Easter Basket, I think. Soft and pretty.

Hoping for a wind-calm day....
