I was asleep by 8 last night and slept til almost 6 this morning.....was that ever nice!

Lily was exhausted, laid down with a groan and barely moved all night.

We had a great day yesterday, kept a fire going non stop, just sat around and talked, drank a bit, great potluck last night....really nice.

More of the same today.

We have a ton of firewood, that the men are determined we will burn up before the last leave on Monday.

Can you have too much campfire?

I think not.

Home, emptied, scrubbed (me ), and working on the laundry.

It was a great weekend with good people I am fortunate to have in my life.

I am windburned, sunburned, and my eyes are still tying to recover from intense smoke saturation, but there was no rain, snow, nor unbearable cold.

We had near perfect weather, surrounded by glorious fall color reflected on the lake.

What could be better, and the perfect end to the camping season.

Due at my son's in a couple of hours, looking forward to seeing the-grands-that-live-close.

Having had my grandchild fix and caught up a bit with my son/his, I want to share a couple of pictures from yesterday.

7 of we women stuffed ourselves into a tow vehicle and visited a nearby alpaca farm....hoping to find yarn, which we did not....but did get to get up close to these sweet faced animals, and the two Burmese Mountain Dogs that live with the herd and protect them from coyotes..

There was a 5 day old in there...

Note the teeth on the dark one in front....badly in need of orthodontia.

The owner cautioned us not to touch them, which they do not like....as they may spit at you to warn you off.

Time for fall chores.....trimming bushes, raking, pulling, getting wood in, tidying up outside.

Seems we are going to have an early winter this year.

64 degrees in the little house this morning.....first fire of the season in the woodstove.

I have yet to do any fall chores.

Had a couple of appointments yesterday, another today, and some other running to do.

Tomorrow......supposed to be warm-ish, and I have no appointments. Going to make myself do them. I really need to wash my windows.

I did start today not one but two prayer shawls......working on two at a time with different patterns will hopefully give me the break from the monotony of one pattern that wants to overtake me by the time I am done with it.

I finished the other over the weekend, sitting outside, but was either so blinded by the sun or the smoke or otherwise not paying attention that I did the second half of it backwards....turned it facing the wrong direction at the beginning of a row and didn't notice my error until it was done and I had tied it off, at which point I wasn't about to rip it out and do it right.

I cannot give it to a hospice client like that, I just can't. Going to drop it in the Goodwill bin and someone will use it who doesn't care or who is interested in ripping half of it out to finish it correctly. It will not be me.

I needed to take some time to be still today. Seemed I had not had any "still" time since that day I took in Greece a month or so ago.

Seriously, it has been busy, and some quiet crochet time is good for settling ones mind. At least, it is good for mine.

I took that today.

Hello Maggie ..
Hans and I are pleased you enjoyed the trip..
We camped on a Farm here in England ..
those fuzzy gentle creatures were meandouring in the Field right next to us ..

Weather here in England is superb ..
by that I'm comparing to Las Vegas .. its drizzling
Im cooking quinoa .. Pronounced Kee War .. never have before .. ..
I'm told .. the white germ pops and wraps around each seed when its cooked
but so far .. it resembles a Louisiana Swamp .. keep on travellin' ..

Meandouring looks wrong .. meandering ?? ..
anyway .. idly hoofing about .. that'll do
1.
This Mornings Squirrel ..
I was a long way off and his beady eyes were watching me ..

Hi Lili!

Those alpaca really have very sweet faces .....my favorite kind of animal...dogs, otters, seals, burros, etc., all have sweet faces..

Quinoa is considered a super grain, full of protein and nutrients. I cook it sometimes, myself.

It cooks up oddly, tho, in my opinion.....kind of clumps together in a mass/mess. It makes a good hot breakfast cereal, tho, especially cooked with steel cut oats.

One of those things you cook and eat because it is good for you.

“Some people, they can't just move on, you know, mourn and cry and be done with it. Or at least seem to be. But for me... I don't know. I didn't want to fix it, to forget. It wasn't something that was broken. It's just...something that happened. And like that hole, I'm just finding ways, every day, of working around it. Respecting and remembering and getting on at the same time. ”

I have sparkling clean windows .....such an immediate improvement in the appearance of one's home.

Doug always did the outside windows....and, most importantly, wrestled himself between the dense yews street side and the house to do our bedroom window.

Guy stuff, he would say...like carrying or moving heavy things, trimming low hanging branches, hauling firewood.... basically anything heavy, dirty or difficult. Not women's work, but men's.

It is almost all mine now. Some things, I simply cannot do nor have any business trying, and that is the truth.

I was so spoiled, but I do have more muscle, now, that is definitely the case....and that is a good thing for a woman who is not getting any younger. An unintended consequence, he would say.

Going to have to have the yard guys trim back those big branches on the yews, tho, as I can barely get myself back in there.

I'm out there, wrangling and maneuvering and squeezing myself in, bucket and rags in hand, and the Amazing Grace wind chimes on the front porch are tinkling.....I'm thinking, that's Doug saying....you did it!...good job, honey!.

Pulled and snipped and tidied the flower beds....shrubs are yet to be trimmed, and leaves are not yet down, so no raking just yet. The red leaf maple in the front yard is just starting to turn color.

I love that tree. Caleb's tree (my son's oldest) planted by he and Grandpa, when he turned 2.

The grands will be over in a few weeks for wild and raucous leaf play in the back yard, then a fire in the chiminea, hot dog roast, and s'mores, before we put the yard fully to bed for the winter.

Going to overseed today, and pick up winterization fluid for the Interstate, then have my needlework group this afternoon.

I find myself wanting at times to end a post here with "Life is good.".

It isn't really good, but my life could be so...much...worse...and my feelings are definitely moving in that direction on the continuum, that is the truth.

It will come, and it doesn't mean I mourn less....I just mourn differently. Doug will always be here, always in my heart and always a part of me....and nearly every single thing I touch in this house and the Interstate. A good thing.

A parallel universe, and I make a bit more peace with it every day.

Being grateful for what and who is good in one's life is one of the critical keys to inner peace, I hsve believed for a very long time, and I have never felt that so keenly than in this past 1 1/2 years.
